Letter: Can't understand city's decision on ex-hotel property

Having read the "Assisted living denial will stand" article in the Feb. 24 edition of the Advocate, I must admit I'm a bit puzzled.

The former Geauga Lake Hotel, originally the Sheraton, sounded to me like a good fit for an assisted living facility. Maybe having such services not much more than a stone's throw away across the road would be seen as too much in the way of competition.

Yes, I understand the zoning restrictions -- they are why a CZC was issued in the first place. The present structure isn't well-suited for use as a steel plant, rolling mill or glass factory.

Maybe the textile industry can make a comeback on the site, but I don't think I'll hold my breath in anticipation.

As the building slowly becomes our very own urban blight, I'd like to see an article on what industry our city leaders expect -- or even hope -- will come along, dust off the neglect and turn decay into thriving prosperity.
