Aurora -- An Akron man and Akron woman were charged with receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools Jan. 28 after an alleged shoplifting incident at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets. Police were called at about noon and apprehended the two people. Officers said they were in possession of merchandise from five stores worth $191. Also repotedly found in their possession was a suit bag lined with duct tape, which police said was used to conceal stolen clothing. They were taken to the Portage County Jail. Meanwhile, officers received a report Jan. 30 from an Outlets store that two women stole six purses. Police got a license plate number from a car seen leaving the scene, but it registered to a different car and the suspects could not be apprehended. No value was given for the missing purses. In another theft report, a man said that just after noon Feb. 2 someone entered his unlocked vehicle on Walden Place and took a GPS unit, iPod and laptop computer worth $1,300. Traffic-related cases Jan. 31 -- Deer hit. A Chagrin Falls man reported striking a deer on West Garfield Road. No human injuries were reported. Jan. 31 -- Several charges. During a traffic stop in the 100 block of West Garfield Road for speeding, a Cleveland man was found allegedly to be driving with an expired license, was in violation of a protection order and had an outstanding warrant from Garfield Heights police. He was taken to the Portage County Jail. Feb. 1 -- Suspended license. During a traffic stop on Treat Road for an equipment violation, an Aurora man was cited for driving under suspension and for not having two functioning headlights. He posted bond, but his vehicle was towed. Feb. 2 -- Vehicle recovered. Police located a stolen vehicle in a towing lot on Page Road. It was reported stolen by Portage County sheriff's deputies. It was found the vehicle had been towed from Streetsboro Village Square. Its owner was contacted to pick it up. Feb. 3 -- OVI citation. An Aurora man was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving under suspension in the 200 block of West Garfield Road. He was released on bond. Feb. 3 -- Suspended license. A Chagrin Falls man was cited for driving under suspension in the 1100 block of South Chillicothe Road. His vehicle was towed and he was taken home. Feb. 3 -- No driver's license. A Solon man was cited on South Aurora Road for failure to reinstate his driver's license. His car was impounded. Miscellaneous cases Jan. 29 -- Juvenile dispute. A Hawthorn of Aurora woman reported her juvenile son did not come home after school and would not answer his cell phone. The youth was located at his father's home, but police said he was uncooperative with his mother. He was warned and released to his mother. Jan. 30 -- Warrant arrest. Officers picked up a Hudson man in Streetsboro on an unspecified warrant. He was taken to the Portage County Jail. Feb. 1 -- Assault. A Cleveland man was charged with domestic violence in the 600 block of North Aurora Road. Officers said there was evidence of physical violence against his wife, but she did not require medical attention. He was taken to Portage County Jail. Feb. 1 -- Welfare check. Officers went to the home of a woman whom fellow employees said had not came to work for two days. She was found to be OK. Feb. 2 -- Harassment. A South Chillicothe Road business reported receiving harassing phone calls from a woman wanting in-formation about a customer. Police contacted the suspect and advised her not to have further contact with the firm. Feb. 3 -- Property damage. A woman in the 500 block of East Pioneer Trail reported her property was damaged by a semi truck that backed onto her lawn. An energy company was contacted and agreed to repair the damage when the weather permits. Comments
