Aurora Community Theatre opens "The Foreigner" Jan. 29 for eight performances at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Feb. 20 at Aurora Community Theatre, 115 E. Pioneer Trail. Set in a rustic Georgia fishing lodge, "The Foreigner" demonstrates what can happen when one visitor seeks a bit of peace and quiet by pretending he doesn't understand English -- which just insures that everyone tells him everything from super secrets to devious plans, for an evening of non-stop hilarity and a wildly funny climax. Director Roseann Canfora returns to the ACT stage to head up this 50th season reprisal, which premiered at ACT in 1989. John Marchese is the producer and Marianne Paul is the board liaison. Alex Nine will articulate little, but communicate volumes as the painfully shy Charlie Baker, who schemes with Jack Warren as Froggy LeSeuer to pretend he's from an exotic foreign country and unable to understand English. Charlie is soon privy to assorted secrets and scandals like those of Brenda Redmond as the Southern belle, Catherine Simms, fiancée of the wily Rev. David Lee performed by Brad Baker. Chris Putnam plays Catherine's kindly and Forrest-Gump-like brother Ellard Simms, who tries to teach Charlie some English. Hotel owner Betty Meeks, played by Jenifer Warren, wards off Gary Bakst in the role of county property inspector Owen Musser, who's bent on finding a way to use the lodge as a KKK meeting place. Zach Wells serves as stage manager assisted by Matt Rondini. Greg Fetzer will oversee lighting and sound with help from Nate Benson and Danielle McElroy. Marianne Paul and Kara Yogan are responsible for costumes while Stephani Ivany takes charges of props and scene design. Paul Checkak makes his ACT debut as construction manager. Tickets are $16 for adults, $11 for youth 18 and under, and are available online at www.auroracommmunitytheatre.com, or through the box office at 330-562-1818. Group discounts are also available by calling the box office. Comments
