JOHN K. BYRUM

Was manufacturer's rep

Services were Oct. 18 at the Church in Aurora for John Kenneth Byrum, 76, of Aurora, who died Oct. 14.

Born in Troy on Sept. 29, 1933, to the late Kenneth and Frances Byrum, he graduated from Euclid High School in 1951 and Otterbein College in Westerville in 1955.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1956 to 1958, then was a member of the Reserves until 1968. He was a manufacturer's representative for Aerovent Fan Co.

He was a past deacon and elder at the Church of Aurora and a past president of the Aurora Kiwanis Club and the Aurora One Fund.

He was a past member of Euclid Masonic Lodge Acacia 651, past board member and president of the Hampton Glenn Condominium Association, past member of Walden Golf and Tennis Club and was a starter for the Dolphins swim team.

He was a member of the Western Reserve Racquet Club, and volunteered for Aurora Reads at Craddock and Miller schools.

Survivors include his wife Judith (Sims) Byrum, sons John Kenneth (Martie) Byrum Jr. of Richmond, Va., and Jeffrey Scott (Ingrid) Byrum of Lake Mills, Wis.; daughter Jayme Lynn (Stephen) Sabulsky of Aurora; five grandchildren; sister Mary Powell of Euclid; and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made to the Church in Aurora. Burial was in Aurora Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Northfield Center.

FRANK O. GENTILE

Was a railroad worker

Services were Oct. 19 at Green Family Funeral Home in Mantua for Frank O. Gentile, 83, a Mantua area resident the past nine years who died Oct. 14, 2009, at Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro.

Born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frank and Marie (Leo) Gentile. He was employed as a mail handler for the railroad. A former resident of Twinsburg, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his daughter Marcella Marcie (Robert Kachenko) Gentile of Mantua; son Frank J. (Donna) Gentile of Sullivan; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Mario Gentile of Aurora; and sister Michelle Schmidt of Sylvania.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nelda T. Gentile in 2003.

Entombment was in Grandview Memorial Park with military honors.

MARY E. MELLINO

Lived for more than 100 years

Services were Oct. 13 at Ferfolia Funeral Home in Maple Heights for Mary E. Mellino, 101, who died Oct. 10 at Anna Maria of Aurora.

Born Nov. 18, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Alfonso and Rosina Mancini, and was a retired homemaker. She also worked alongside her husband for many years at Mellino Shoe Repair at 149th Street and Kinsman in Cleveland.

She is survived by her sister Anna Qualiata and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Sebastiano, and siblings Rose Mangino, Victoria Carlucci, Joseph, Fred and Frank preceded her in death.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
