Police News: Two dirt bike riders charged with trespassing and eluding

Aurora -- Two teenage dirt bike riders were charged with trespassing and fleeing and eluding after a brief chase May 31.

Officers responded to a report of the bikers riding along the Norfork Southern railroad tracks on East Garfield Road. The pair fled from the officers.

They were apprehended at the Treat Road railroad crossing. Both were 16 years old and from Solon. Charges were referred to Portage County Juvenile Court.

Police also handled two other incidents of trespassing.

On June 1, an Aurora man was charged with criminal trespassing after a Geauga Lake Park security guard found him at the park's Treat Road campground. The guard told police the man had been warned before to stay off the property.

On June 2, officers warned a couple of people who were on a property near Aurora Lake without permission to stay away.

During their investigation, officers also found an unattended car at the site with a marijuana pipe inside. The owner was located and warned about the pipe, which was confiscated and destroyed.

On May 28, officers discovered a person inside a parked car at the former Geauga Lake Hotel. Further investigatiion found the car was reported stolen from Cleveland.

Police said apparently the situation was a domestic incident. Cleveland police were contacted, but declined to pick up the driver, who was a suspect in the theft, so the man was turned loose.

Officers locked and se-cured the vehicle. The owner later picked up the keys at the police station.

Disputes, harassment

May 27 -- Argument. A man reported while discussing a business matter with a renter, another man threatened him on East Garfield Road. The parties were warned to have no further contact with each unless it's done through their attorneys.

May 27 -- Harassment. A Canterbury Road woman reported being harassed by her ex-boyfriend. A civil order was issued and the woman will pursue the matter with her attorney.

May 29 -- Assault. A woman reported her juvenile son was hit several times in the head by another juvenile whom he did not know. Local paramedics checked out the boy, who declined transport to a hospital. The suspect could not be located.

May 29 -- Verbal argument. Officers investigated a verbal exchange at an Aurora Commons business. The owner told a Twinsburg man to leave, while a Cleveland Heights man declined to press charges.

May 30 -- Domestic dispute. No charges were filed after police investigated a dispute between a woman and her adult son in Hawthorn. The man was picked up at the police station by his father. No injuries were reported.

May 31 -- Harassment. An Aurora man reported receiving harassing text messages from another Aurora man. The suspect was identified and told to have no further contact with the victim.

June 3 -- Dispute. Police took a statement regarding a domestic incident in the near east part of town that occurred June 2.

Traffic-related cases

May 28 -- License plate violation. During a traffic stop in the 600 block of North Aurora Road, a Twinsburg man was cited for having no rear license plate illumination and an Aurora passenger was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

May 28 -- Rear-end crash. An Aurora woman was cited for assured clear distance after police said she struck an Aurora juvenile's vehicle from behind in the 1000 block of North Aurora Road. No injuries were reported.

May 29 -- Collision. An Aurora man was cited for assured clear distance after police said he struck a Mantua Township man's vehicle from behind in the 300 block of West Garfield Road. No injuries were reported.

May 29 -- Rear-end collision. A Parma woman was cited for assured clear distance after police said she struck a Rootstown woman's car in the 1100 block of East Garfield Road. Police said the Parma woman was taken to a hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

May 29 -- Suspended license. While helping an Aurora man who locked his keys in his vehicle on Sherwood Drive, police found his license was suspended but he still had possession of it. The license was confiscated and returned to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

May 31 -- Underage drinking. Two Solon men and one from Cleveland were charged with underage drinking during a traffic stop in the 800 block of North Aurora Road. They were released to the driver's father.

May 31 -- Suspended license. An Aurora man was cited for driving with a suspended license on East Pioneer Trail.

May 31 -- Garage damage. A Hill Drive resident reported an Aurora girl drove her car into the garage door, damaging it and two cars inside.

June 1 -- Rear-end crash. A Parma man was cited for assured clear distance after police said he struck a Maple Heights woman's car from behind in the 100 block of South Chillicothe Road. No injuries were reported.

June 1 -- Suspended license, paraphernalia. An Aurora man was cited for driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on East Boulevard. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.

June 1 -- Rear-end crash. An Aurora man was cited for assured clear distance after officers said he hit a Reminderville man's vehicle from behind on Aurora-Hudson Road. No injuries were reported.

June 1 -- Failure to yield. A Mantua Township woman was cited for failure to yield after police said she pulled from a parking and struck an Aurora woman's passing car. No injuries were reported.

Miscellaneous cases

May 29 -- Earrings missing. An Aberdeen Lane woman reported a pair of canary diamond earrings valued at $375 were missing.

May 29 -- Window broken. A woman told police she parked her rental car at her mother's home and when she returned, the driver's side window was broken.

May 31 -- Doors egged. A Chandler Path woman reported two slider doors at her home were egged.

June 1 -- Felony theft. After receiving a report about Internet purchases valued at $1,581 that were not paid for, police charged a man with felony theft and took him to the Portage County Jail.

June 2 -- Bikes taken. A woman reported her sons' bicycles valued at $600 were stolen while they were attending an open gym at the high school.
