by Advocate Staffers Sophomore Chris Dennison, an Aurora High School graduate, has been a major contributor to the Miami of Ohio cross country team this season. In the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3, he posted a personal best of 25:01 and finished in 102nd place as the Red Hawk men placed 13th out of 25 teams. In a first-place team effort in the University of Tennessee Invitational on Sept. 19, Dennison finished 13th in 25:44.15. In a first-place team effort in the Great American Legends Race Sept. 5 at Purdue University, he was seventh in 26:19.48, and in a winning team effort in the Dayton 5K Challenge on Aug. 30 he placed 16th in 15:54. + + + Senior Amy Moore, an Aurora High School graduate, is running this year for the Youngstown State women's cross country team. In the Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, she took 54th place in 22:57, and in the Notre Dame Invitational she was 184th in 21:26. YSU was third of four Division I teams in the Evans event and 19th in the gold division of the ND event. + + + Kahli Hale and Amanda Bayer were named first team Chagrin Valley Conference in girls soccer. Second teamers were Rachel Cantelmi, Keni Gilley and Jei Milner, while honorable mentions were Megan Carlson and Jordan Curtis. + + + Aurora's varsity football team has clinched a top 4 spot in Division III Region 9 and will host a first-round playoff game Nov. 1. Division I, III and V playoff games this fall will be played on Saturday nights, while Division II, IV and VI contests will be played on Friday nights. According to those who keep a close eye on computer points, AHS's most likely opponent in the first round would be Hubbard or Notre Dame Cathedral Catholic, with Chagrin Falls and Ravenna as outside possibilities. + + + Several Aurorans participated in the Towpath Marathon and Half-Marathon on Oct. 12 in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Results of marathon runners were: Maria Lozier, 22nd in women 40-44 in 5:57:45; Rosilyn Gregory, 14th in women 45-49 in 6:03:51; and Robert O'Connor, third in men 65-69 in 5:45:31. Results of half-marathoners were: Jason Rericha, 17th in men 25-29 in 1:52:45; Gary Kalbasky Jr., 19th in men 30-34 in 1:47:17; Steve Horvath, 14th in men 35-39 in 1:40:26. For details, visit www.wrtr.org. + + + With only the Denny Shute Matchplay Championships remaining this year on the Northern Ohio PGA schedule, it appears Auroran Todd Lancaster has Player of the Year honors sewed up. Lancaster won last week's Mitchell-Haskell Tour Championship with a 137 total, 5 strokes better than the runners-up and pocketed $1,300. He has compiled 1,474 points to runner-up Gary Robison's 1,214. Other local results in the tour championship were: Barrington pro David Engram, eighth with 145 ($450); Mike Richey, tied for 30th at 154; and Rick Areddy, 52nd at 161. + + + Walsh Jesuit's girls golf team, of which Auroran Ariel McNair is a member, was runner-up to Mason in the Division I state tournament. The Warriors, who were defending state champs, shot 321-335-656. McNair shot 83-87-170.
