Aurora -- Police received reports about several more thefts in various parts of the city in recent days. Four were from cars parked in their owners' driveways. A Moneta Avenue man reported a muffler valued at $225 was taken from inside his vehicle Aug. 8, while an Idlewood Lane man reported a Palm Pilot valued at $200 was taken from his car Aug. 10. Two thefts from vehicles occurred on South Sussex Drive. On Aug. 11, $15 in cash and a $400 GPS system was taken from a truck. The same night, a cell phone and GPS system/charger were removed from another vehicle. No value of the latter items was given. On Aug. 11, a Rootstown woman reported her wallet was stolen while she was at work at a S. Chillicothe Road business. Several credit cards inside were used to make unauthorized purchases in the amount of $10,000. Two shoplifting incidents were reported at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets on Aug. 8 and 9. In the first, a juvenile from Xenia was charged with theft after police say she took nail polish, an ankle bracelet and ring valued at $11. The case was referred to Portage County Juvenile Court. On Aug. 9, a store employee reported seeing a juvenile take a pair of cubic zirconia earrings without paying for them. Officers located the youth and returned the items to the store. The youth's mother was advised. On Aug. 6, an Aurora woman reported someone used her credit card to make unauthorized purchases in Florida. No value of the purchases was given. She told police she has not used the card in years. She was advised to contact the credit company and a credit reporting agency. On Aug. 12, an Aurora woman reported someone used her personal information to try to open a credit card account. She alerted three major credit reporting agencies. Meanwhile, officers were advised Aug. 10 by a fast food restaurant's employees that two people were seen standing around and lying under cars at a dealership on West Garfield Road. Officers found several lug nuts on the ground which had been removed from tires. Traffic-related cases Aug. 7 -- Suspended license. During a traffic stop, a Mantua Township man was cited for driving under suspension in the 700 block of South Chillicothe Road. Aug. 8 -- Rock hits car. An Aurora man reported his vehicle was damaged by a rock that fell from a truck in front of him in the under-100 block of North Chillicothe Road. No damage estimate was given and the trucking company was notified of the incident. Aug. 10 -- Deer struck. Police said a Twinsburg man struck a deer in the 700 block of West Garfield Road. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given. Aug. 11 -- Crash. An Aurora woman was cited for assured clear distance after police said she struck a Mantua juvenile's vehicle from behind in the 400 block of East Garfield Road while the latter was stopped for a flagman directing traffic. The Aurora woman was checked by the rescue squad for a possible wrist injury, but was not transported. No damage estimate was given. Aug. 13 -- Citations. A Ravenna man was cited for having no operator's license and fictitious plates in the 800 block of West Garfield Road. Officers found the license plate had expired in February 2008 and was registered to a deceased person. Miscellaneous cases Aug. 6 -- Pastor apologizes. An Aurora woman reported her mother was being contacted by various people asking for money. Officers discovered a church pastor gave the people her mother's name and contact information. The pastor was told not to give out the information to anyone else, and he apologized to the woman and reimbursed her for the money she had given out. Aug. 6 -- Purse lost, found. An Aurora woman reported she lost her purse and wallet in the Harmon School parking lot, but then called police later and said they were found and nothing was missing. Aug. 6 -- Harassment. A Highlands woman reported her ex-boyfriend was sending her harassing text messages and e-mails. Officers contacted the man and he said the woman had some of his property. He was advised to contact an attorney and have no further contact with the woman. Aug. 9 -- Disoriented woman. A woman, whom officers said was standing in the 1200 block of South Chillicothe Road and appeared to be disoriented, was taken to a hospital by the rescue squad. The woman stated she may have had a seizure. Aug. 12 -- Bike found. A service department employee turned in a girls bike found in a local park. Aug. 12 -- Assault reported. A man told police he had been assaulted in the Four Seasons subdivision and had minor injuries. Police spoke to the suspect. Since the two parties' stories conflicted, police advised them the incident would be forwarded to the prosecutor's office. However, the victim did not wish further police action and the case was closed. Reminderville incidents Aug. 8 -- House arrest. A 19-year-old Surfside Circle man was put under house arrest after he allegedly confessed to burglary and theft at his neighbor's home, which occurred between July 12 and 19 while the family was on vacation. The man went to the police station Aug. 6 and confessed to felony burglary and theft charges. Police said, the man stole about $2,092 in change from three bedrooms in the home, and used his neighbor's home computer July 14 and 18 to log on to the Internet. Police said he had access to a key to the victim's home, so there were no signs of forced entry. The man pleaded guilty to the two charges, was ordered to pay a $7,500 bond to Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court and was sentenced to house arrest from Aug. 8 to his Aug. 18 preliminary hearing. July 28 -- Self turn-in. A 25-year-old Aurora Road man walked into the police station and told police he had an active warrant for failure to pay a fine for driving under suspension. The man was released after he paid a $750 cash bond. Comments
