Administrators in school districts which are members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association are voting through May 15 on 17 amendments to the OHSAA constitution and by-laws.

One amendment would change the name of the governing body of the OHSAA from Board of Control to Board of Directors. The OHSAA believes Board of Control is an antiquated term that could have a negative connotation.

Another amendment would allow a school district athletic administrator who is not a licensed member of the teaching profession or who does not hold an administrative license to run for election to a district athletic board.

A number of the amendments deal with transfers of student-athletes from one school to another and with eligibility.

One amendment would add an exception to the policy related to sports participation by students from foreign countries and exchange students.

It states for a student from a country or province outside the United States who is enrolled in a member school that provides housing and accepts the role of the parent may be eligible for interscholastic athletics.

An OHSAA subcommittee of administrators and coaches met recently to discuss the regulation of assigning schools to tournament divisions.

The OHSAA said the subcommittee has not been given a deadline to submit a proposal to the Board of Control, and any changes would not take place until the 2009-10 year since the association is in the first year of a two-year cycle for tournament division assignments.
