Aurora -- Rain wiped out the Orange Relays on May 2, but the Greenmen girls and boys track teams were able to claim a victory over Orange in a dual meet April 29.

"It was unfortunate we didn't get to run at least part of the Orange Relays," said girls coach John Kudley.

"There was a window of time with no rain and I think they would have been able to get most of the running events in, even with a rain delay. We were anxious to compete since we would've been almost back to full strength."

The coach said the girls have lost the services of Ashley Smith for the remainder of the season because of a stress fracture in her foot.

"She was a member of our sprint relay teams, but fortunately we have several young ladies who can step up and fill the void," said Kudley.

Two girls were double winners in the Orange dual meet. Michelle Matras won the shotput (25-10) and discus (76-1) and Jill Sweress continued her success by winning the 800 (2:38.7) and 1,600 (5:59) runs.

Also taking first were Jordan Curtis in the high jump (4-8), Gabby Lyons in the long jump (13-7) and Annie Dankelson in the 3,200 (13:51).

"We dominated all four relays with the team of Danielle Lewandowski, Sweress, Caitlyn Delahunta and Erica Aldrich winning the 4x800 in 10:53.5," Kudley said.

Kahli Hale, Curtis, Jessica Milner and Danielle Dobies won the 4x100 in 54.5) and 4x200 (1:56.5), while Kelsey Fischer, Dobies, Brooke Eastman and Brooke Hradisky won the 4x400 (4:27.4).

"We used the meet to experiment with Hradisky," noted Kudley. "She has been utilized primarily as a sprinter this season, but the coaching staff is convinced she has talent as a middle distance runner. She is our fastest 400 runner."

Kudley said he led her off on the 4x800 B relay team against Orange and she ran a split of 2:29.9, which was the Greenmen's fastest of the season. She was to run the 800 against Perry and West Geauga on May 6.

"That would give us another chance to evaluate her and determine where she will best fit the teams in the Chagrin Valley Conference meet and postseason," he said.

Boys results vs. Orange

The boys team, like the girls the same day, was an easy winner over Orange, 90-47. Aurora took first in 10 events.

The lone field event won by a Greenman was the discus, where Andrew Cottle prevailed. Andrew Krieger led the way in the running events, taking first in the 100 and 400 dashes.

Other first-place finishes came from Frederick Frantzen in the 110 hurdles, Dee Brizzolara in the 300 hurdles, Rachid Lamouri in the 800, Jamal Simmons in the 200, Mark Korosec in the 3,200 and the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.

The Greenmen will compete in the Mayfield Invitational on May 9 and then will host the CVC meet May 13 and 15 at Veterans Stadium.
