Harmon track squad takes two first places

In the 20-team Twinsburg Chamberlin Relays for middle school track teams April 26, Harmon School's girls took seventh place, while the boys finished ninth.

Solon was the girls champion, with Maple Heights Milkovich and Chamberlin right behind. For the boys, Solon, Nordonia and Kent Stanton were the top three teams.

Harmon's 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay team of Annie Quaranto, Lauren Fisher, Sally Davidoff and Kati Maselli took first place in 1:14.89.

Jessica Baker was third in the high jump at 4-10, while the girls 4x400 relay of Maselli, Lindsey Pizzuro, Vanessa Cantelmi and Kristin Verel placed sixth in 4:46.53.

The boys 4x100 relay of Anthony Malchiori, Nick Moore, Cody Miller and Mike Melfi took first and set a school record of 47.64.

The other top effort by the boys at Twinsburg was third place by the distance medley relay of Justin Morrison, Tom Iammarino, Sean Cullen and Ben Davis in 13:04.44.

In other recent action, school records were set by Malchiori in the 100 dash (11.92), Morrison in the 800 (2:17.1), the 4x400 team of John Merkel, Zach Smmieciak, Miles Milner and Caleb Polasky (4:11.59) and Jimmy Prochaska in the discus (110).

In other recent meets, the girls team beat Hawken and Grand Valley and lost to West Geauga and Perry, while the boys beat Hawken and Grand Valley, Chagrin Falls and Berkshire, West Geauga and Perry.

Harmon's squads wrap up this season's action tonight at Kenston (4 p.m.) and May 13 at the Chagrin Relays (3:30 p.m.).
