Sports Wire:Three locals in Boston Marathon; 2 in 10-miler

The Godale brothers and a third Auroran ran in the 112th Boston Marathon on April 21.

Mark Godale, 37, finished 222nd in 2:42:56; Stephen Godale, 39, finished 554th in 2:52:32; and Larry R. Evans, 57, finished 12,073th in 3:50:18.

Two Aurorans ran in the Hermes Cleveland-Fleet Feet 10-miler on April 26 in Cleveland. Elizabeth Heier placed 10th in women ages 30 to 34 in 1:22:03.6, while Marybeth Butkovic was 27th in women 45 to 49 in 1:45:26.45.

An AYBA summer basketball camp for boys and girls in gradees 4 to 8 will be June 9 to 12 at Harmon School.

Times are 9 to 11:30 a.m. for boys, with instruction provided by Hiram College men's basketball coach Steve Fleming, and 12:30 to 3 p.m., with instruction by Hiram women's basketball coach Andrea Preston.

The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon is coming up May 18, with the marathon and half-marathon starting at 7 a.m. and the 10K at 7:35. The event kicks off at East 13th and St. Clair streets.

Entry fees until May 14 are $95 for the marathon, $80 for the half-marathon and $30 for the 10K.

Mail entries must be postponed by May 9 and mailed to Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and 10K, 29525 Chagrin Blvd., Suite 215, Pepper Pike 44122. Online entries are possible at www.clevelandmarathon.com.

Walden pro Mitch Camp and Silver Lake Country Club pro Tom Atchison tied for third place in the Northern Ohio PGA's Taylor Made-Adidas Pro-Pro Shootout on April 21.

It was the first tournament of the season for the Northern Ohio PGA. Each of the two golfers pocketed $500. Mike Heisterkamp and Tom Waitrovich won the tourney and each pocketed $1,000.

Barrington pro David Engram and Sand Ridge pro Matt Creech finished in a first-place tie and each pocketed $400.

The next event will be May 5 when the Callaway-Pepsi Stroke Play Series 2 tournament will be played in Elyria.

Aurora High School graduate Steve Bold, a freshman at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania, was named the Presidents Athletic Conference men's tennis player of the week recently.

Bold posted an 8-0 record that week, when the Yellow Jackets won four straight matches, including three against conference members. Bold also tallied four doubles victories with freshman Emile Khoury.

In the All-Ohio Championships on April 18-19, Aurora High School graduate Chris Dennison took 19th place for the Miami Red Hawks in the 5,000-meter run. His time was 15:45.56.

Miami finished fifth out of 11 men's teams. Ohio State was the winner.

In the Miami Team Challenge, Dennison placed 11th in the 5,000 run in 15:30.35. The Red Hawks men topped the 11-team field.

Aurora High School graduate Katie Allenspach recorded an RBI when she reached base on a fielder's choice in Heidelberg College's 7-4 softball victory over Otterbein.

She also pitched the victory, her sixth of the season.

Meanwhile, in the first game of a doubleheader against Mount Union, Aurora High School graduate Ashley Foust led off the sixth inning with a solo home run. Allenspach was the losing pitcher.

Heading into this week's action, Heidelberg was 3-15 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and 7-27 overall.

At the Aurora Board of Education's April 28 meeting, Molly Schneider was awarded a supplemental contracts as a softball assistant coach.
