by Andre Clayton Reporter Twinsburg -- Chrysler says the Twinsburg Stamping Plant is one of three facilities that might stay open during a two-week summer shutdown planned for 34 other plants in North America, Canada and Mexico. Chrysler will impose mandatory vacations for workers, encouraging them to use their paid vacation days, at facilities taking part in the shutdown because it wanted everyone to come back from vacation and work at the same time, as opposed to staggering vacations throughout the summer, said Ed Saenz, Chrysler manager of manufacturing communications. Since the message was delivered in March, some employees have already used their paid vacation days and will have to take unpaid vacation days during the shutdown, but next year people will be better prepared for the summer shutdown, Saenz said. Saenz said the Twinsburg plant is planned to remain open to produce parts for the Chrysler Windsor assembly plant, which produces vans in Ontario, Canada, and will remain open during the shutdown. "Since the [Windsor] plant is planned to operate, they need stamped parts," Saenz said. The employees at the Twinsburg plant are allowed to use their vacation days during the summer shutdown if the plant does not take part in it, Saenz said. According to Saenz, the market also will help decide if the Twinsburg plant will remain open during the summer shutdown. "We will make adjustments to consumer demands," Saenz said.
