Planners meet tonight Four items will be on the city planning commission's agenda at its meeting tonight (April 2) at 7 in Town Hall. Panelists will consider a preliminary and final site plan for an addition at Hope Lutheran Church and a preliminary site plan for additions at Rotek. They also will discuss a revised final site plan for Network Technologies and a proposed amendment to the zoning code related to tourist attraction directional signs. OLPH to be the site of United Way fundraiser United Way of Portage County will sponsor its second annual Gourmet Gala and silent auction April 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish center in Aurora. Culinary participants will be ThornCreek Winery of Aurora, Bistro On Main, Giant Eagle Deli, Harry and David Specialty Store, HoneyBaked Ham, JoAnn's Cakes and Candy, Karen's Bakery, LeGourmet Chef, Mangiamo, Pufferbelly and Rusty Nail Steakhouse. Only 350 tickets will be sold, and reservations are suggested. Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. For details, call 330-297-1424 ext. 110. Hosting the event will be Deluxe Corp. of Streetsboro, with sponsors Meaden and Moore of Cleveland and the Record Publishing Co. Rep for Edward Jones seeks a sign variance A sign variance is being sought by local Edward Jones investment representative Brady Krebs at his new quarters at 283 E. Garfield Road. The board of zoning appeals will hear his request April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall. He is seeking to locate a sign zero feet from the right of way instead of the minimum required setback of 10 feet. An opportunity will be afforded to anyone from the public who wishes to comment. Written statements also are accepted in the BZA office in the Walker Building on West Pioneer Trail. Quinn will return home from the Peace Corps Auroran Randy Quinn, 25, has completed his service in the Peace Corps and is returning home this month. For more than two years, he has served in Mbour, Senegal, as an agricultural development Peace Corps volunteer. His work involved teaching gardening skills and aiding rural farmers during the growing season. He intends to attend law school after his return. Quinn grew up in Aurora and attended middle and high school here. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford with a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 2005. He said the main benefit of his Peace Corps experience was "learning to work effectively in informal settings by motivating people." Quinn is one of 292 Ohio residents serving in the Peace Corps. More than 6,000 Ohioans have served since 1961.
Paint dropoff is slated April 12 for Aurorans The city's annual paint dropoff will take place April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brown Keidel Service Center off West Pioneer Trail. Paint and paint products only in original containers will be accepted. No empty or dried up cans will be accepted. Lids should be taken off and placed in the trash. Small amounts of paint can be dried up with kitty litter or sand. Contractors are not permitted to participate. The dropoff is offered to residents of Aurora in conjunction with the Portage County Solid Waste Management District. The district accepts leftover paint all year long. Questions should be referred to 330-678-8808. Library's hours noted Regular hours at the Aurora Library are: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Fridays. Relay For Life meets The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for the Aurora and Streetsboro areas will have a team informatiional meeting April 7 at 7 p.m. in Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer's community room. The location is in front of Barrington town Square. Anyone interested in forming or joining a team is encouraged to attend. his year's Relay is May 30 and June 1 at Veterans Stadium. Library Week planned Portage County District Library is celebrating National Library Week from April 14 to 19. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, libarians and library workers in all libraries nationwide, and it is the perfect time to discover how one can "join the circle of knowledge" at the library.
