YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Young professionals between ages 21 and 40 are encouraged to get involved in Portage County's first Young Professionals Group.

It is designed to foster up-and-coming Portage County employees. Membership is free to employees of businesses belonging to any Portage County chamber of Commerce.

Membership also is open to those who do not belong to a Chamber for an introductory rate of $50 per year.

Half of the structure of the group is strictly social and half is business. Twice-a-month meetings will be scheduled in the evenings.

For more information, call the Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce at 330-626-4769. Kickoff events will begin in May, with times, dates and locations to be announced.

UNITED WAY-PORTAGE

Portage County United Way's second annual gourmet gala will be April 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church's parish center in Aurora.

Cost is $30 per ticket in advance and $35 at the door. Reservations can be made by calling 330-297-1424 ext. 110. Only 350 tickets will be sold.

The event includes a silent auction, raffle prizes, a cash wine bar and culinary delights served by area restaurants and chefs. It supports several local United Way agencies.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

Al and Aileen Linek of Aurora are the proud great-grandparents of Madison Paige Summers, who was born Feb. 14 at Robinson Memorial Hospital, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

The infant is the daughter of Derick and Laura Summers of Streetsboro. She joins her older brother Dominic Summers, 2 1/2.

Maternal grandparents are Tim and Susan Archual of Tallmadge and Scott Carver of Los Ojos, N.M. Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Cheryl Summers of Streetsboro.

Other great-grandparents are Buck and Shirley Collins of Ravenna, Jack and Lauretta Archual of Munroe Falls and Mary Jane Renick of North Canton.

STREETSBORO EAGLES

Streetsboro Eagles Aerie No. 4300 is hosting fresh home-cooked dinners every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, with a different menu each week.

The dinners will be served from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Eagles hall, 9052 Route 14 in Streetsboro, and are open to the public. For more information, call 330-626-9362.

GENEALOGY SOCIETY

The Hungarian Genealogy Society of Greater Cleveland invites all who are interested in searching for their ancestors in the old Austro-Hungarian Empire to meetings at its new location -- the Solon Public Library.

The library is at 34125 Portz Pkwy. off Route 91 (SOM Center Road), south of Aurora Road.

Meetings are usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., with a program or discussion related to Eastern European genealogical research afterward.

On March 26, group member Mary Uray will demonstrate how to use the Family History Library Web site to locate records for Central and Eastern European research.

ENTREPRENEURS CLUB

The guest speaker for the March 27 CPS Entrepreneur's Club meeting at the Blue Canyon Restaurant in Twinsburg will be John Zitzner, founder and president of E City.

The CPS Entrepreneurs Club is a group of business owners who meet once a month for lunch to network and learn. Speaker topics are autobiographical.

SINGLES NETWORK

Western Reserve Singles Network gets together the first Friday of each month for TGIF parties.

Upcoming parties are April 4 at Old Whedon Grille in Hudson and May 2 at Marcelita's Restaurant in Hudson.
