Auroraadvocate.com - Police News: Oil well truck rips down wires; dirt biker nabbed

Aurora -- Telephone lines were torn down by an oil well truck in the 1100 block of East Garfield, according to local police. The incident occurred Jan. 30.

Police summoned the phone company and advised the driver to tell his company it would be responsible for paying the replacement costs, the extent of which were unknown. The phone company could not be reached to find out how many, if any, residents were affected.

Meanwhile, a dirt bike rider, who reportedly has been riding on Valley Christian Academy and city park property, was caught Feb. 5 and charged with criminal trespassing.

Arrested on warrants

Jan. 31 -- An Aurora man was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.

Feb. 4 -- An Aurora woman was arrested on an unspecified warrant from Reminderville police and taken to that village's police station for booking.

Feb. 4 -- An Aurora man was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court. He turned himself in at the police station and was released on bond.

Dispute, harassment

Jan. 31 -- Argument. Officers checked out a report of a domestic dispute between a man and his girlfriend in Barrington Estates. Officers said conflicting details were given. The man left the residence for the evening.

Feb. 6 -- Girl reports being slapped. An Aurora woman reported her daughter was slapped by another student while on a school bus. The matter was reported to the bus driver and referred to the juvenile officer for follow-up. No injury was reported.

Traffic-related cases

Feb. 1 -- Rear-end crash. An Aurora man was cited for assured clear distance after police said he struck a Chesterland man's vehicle from behind in the 100 block of East Pioneer Trail. No damage estimate was given.

Feb. 1 -- Car tumbles. A Mantua man was involved in an accident on East Garfield Road in which police said his vehicle rolled down an embankment and came to rest against a tree. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.

Feb. 2 -- Mailboxes struck. Police said an Aurora man agreed to repair or replace mailboxes on Lake Avenue, which he struck with his vehicle after sliding on ice while exiting a gas station on Route 43.

Feb. 2 -- Rear-end collision. An Aurora juvenile was cited for assured clear distance after police said he struck a Pepper Pike juvenile's vehicle from behind in the 100 block of West Garfield Road. No damage estimate was given.

Feb. 2 -- Another rear-ender. No citations were issued after officers checked out a collision in which an Aurora man struck a Perry man's vehicle from behind in the 800 block of North Aurora Road. No damage estimate was given.

Feb. 4 -- Suspended license. During a traffic stop on Lloyd Avenue, a Cleveland man was cited for driving under suspension. A friend came to the station and drove the vehicle and defendant home.

Feb. 4 -- Car hit in lot. A Macedonia woman reported someone struck her car while it was parked in a lot in the 800 block of North Aurora Road. No damage estimate was given.

Miscellaneous incident

Feb. 1 -- Pepper spray disposed of. An Aurora man dropped off pepper spray at the station to be disposed of.
