Two years after he was found dead in his Kent apartment, the murder of Franklin "Frankie" Benedict remains an open, unsolved case.
On July 8, 2015, Benedict's roommate found his body inside their apartment at 476 Fleeter Court in the Lincolnwood Terrace complex, off South Lincoln Street. Benedict, 26, had been shot to death, according to the Kent Police Department.
Kent police spokesman Lt. Mike Lewis said detectives continue to investigate what happened.
"It's still definitely an open case. It's still under investigation," he said. "We're still looking to pursue any leads or any information people have."
An Ashtabula native, Benedict worked nights as a third-shift supervisor at the Streetsboro Walmart. He had previously taken classes at Kent State University but had not been enrolled at the university since the spring semester of 2013, a spokesman said at the time.
Benedict had no criminal record, and police have not released a potential motive for his murder.
"There's still somebody out there that knows something, saw something, heard something," he said. "So if anybody has any information that might be valuable to the investigation, we want them to come forward."
The Ohio Attorney General's Office also has added Benedict's murder to its online list of approximately 2,000 unsolved Ohio homicides. Tips may be submitted online at www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov, and a printable poster with case information also may be found at the site.
Lewis asked that anyone with information about Benedict's murder call Kent police at 330-673-7732.
