AURORA — With Aurora High hosting state duals matches tonight (Jan. 25), the Greenmen tuned up Jan. 21 by competing in the 31st annual Wadsworth Grizzly Invitational.
Aurora's Jarrod Brezovec kept his record unscathed this season by winning the 132-pound championship over Luke Baughman with a 5-0 decision.
It was the second Grizzly title for the two-time state placer, who is focusing on returning to Columbus for the state individual tournament later in February.
But Brezovec wasn't the Greenmen's only champion at Wadsworth, as Bubba Arslanian returned to action and claimed the 220-pound crown. Jack Gorman, coming off a title at the Top Gun tourney in Alliance, finished as runnerup.
Division I powerhouse Wadsworth won the team title for the second straight year and 15th time in the last 16 years.
No results were available from last week's scheduled match against Suburban League opponent Tallmadge.
At the state duals, AHS earned the No. 1 seed in the Sub-region 3-B bracket. The field in each division will be narrowed to 32 teams tonight, with regional rounds set for Feb. 1.
The Greenmen also will compete Jan. 28 in the Cable 9 triangular at Twinsburg, with Nordonia as the third team.
