Ravenna -- A Portage County man who previously served time in prison for having sex with an underage girl now is serving a 10-year prison sentence for committing the same crime with a different victim.
Joshua R. Zeigler, 24, with last known addresses in Freedom and Mantua townships, was sentenced last month to a decade behind bars by Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman.
The judge labeled Zeigler a Tier III sex offender, requiring him to register his address with the sheriff's office in his county of residence every 90 days for the rest of his life upon release from prison.
He must also inform authorities of his place of employment and whether or not he is attending school.
Zeigler received credit for 278 days already served in the Portage County Jail awaiting trial, was fined $300 and was ordered to pay $294 in court costs.
Zeigler pleaded guilty in June to four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, all second-degree felonies, and faced two to eight years in prison on each count.
The victim in this case was a 14-year-old Aurora girl, Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said.
Zeigler previously served a prison sentence on a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor after impregnating his 14-year-old victim, he said. The age of consent in Ohio for sexual activity is 16.
In the more recent case, the victim's parents brought her to the Aurora Police Department after uncovering the crimes.
An investigation revealed that Zeigler and the victim had sex at least eight times between September and December 2014, with many of the incidents taking place while the girl was living with another parent in the Mantua area, Vigluicci said.
The victim's father had spoken to both his daughter and Zeigler and warned them not to have any contact with each other.
The girl told investigators, and her cell phone confirmed, that some of the conversations involved sending Zeigler nude photographs of herself, sneaking out to meet him and talking about the two running away together, Vigluicci said.
Zeigler was on parole from prison while all these incidents took place, and the sheriff's office already was investigating him for failing to register his address when released, Vigluicci said.
