Aurora -- Taylor and Skylar Dittrich, twin sisters from Aurora, can now say they have something else in common than being twins -- they shared the title of valedictorian this year at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Cuyahoga Falls.
They are the daughters of Lisa and Walter Dittrich.
To snag the title as valedictorians in their class of 145 students, Taylor and Skylar achieved grade-point averages of 4.553 and 4.544, respectively, along with taking many advanced placement and honors classes.
While the twins were in a majority of their classes together, they have a desire to study very different fields.
Taylor will be headed to Ohio State University to study material science and engineering.
"I really liked OSU when I visited it. It's big and has so many opportunities," Taylor said, adding she decided on her field of study after she completed several internships through the school's "J-term" program, which allows students to explore their area of interest.
"I really liked the material sciences that they did. I've always really liked math and sciences."
Skylar will attend Washington University in St. Louis to study international business, where she will be a "quadruple legacy," meaning she will be the fourth member of her family to study there.
"When I walked on campus, I got the feeling that 'this is the place for me,'" she explained.
While being in classes together resulted in some competition between them, it was also helpful when it came to their schoolwork. "I think it helped with homework, as we were able to pair up and be lab partners in AP biology," said Skylar.
The girls also were kept busy with involvement in many extracurricular activities at CVCA.
Taylor was on the varsity softball team for four years, participated on the robotics team and was a copy editor for the school's newspaper, the Royal Courier, which she started with a friend. She also was a National Merit commended scholar.
Skylar played varsity tennis for four years and was captain for two, wrote articles for the alumni magazine and the Royal Courier, and was involved with Spanish club. She was a National Merit finalist.
Sharing the title of valedictorian, the twins did their speech together at the June 1 commencement ceremonies, and did a few "fun twin things" while delivering it, according to their mother. One was speaking at the same time.
