Decision in 1988 murder likely to come next week

Ravenna — After a two-week civil trial, a visiting judge will issue a written decision whether two men convicted of a 1988 murder in Hiram Township and who served prison time are innocent of the crime.
Retired Summit County Common Pleas Judge Marvin Shapiro heard two weeks of evidence from plaintiffs Bob Gondor, Randy Resh and their attorneys, plus evidence from assistant county prosecutors.
Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said he expects the judge’s “findings of fact and conclusions of law” to be filed next week.
If the pair gets a finding of “actual innocence” from Shapiro, they can petition the Ohio Court of Claims for financial compensation for wrongful imprisonment.
