Boston Township — The Summit County Medical Examiner has identified bones found in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park as belonging to Taylor Robinson, a 19-year-old Akron female missing since May 4.
Robinson was identified through dental records, according to Gary Guenther, chief investigator at the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office.
The full skull, jawbone, some large bones and smaller ones were recovered, Guenther said.
“More testing will go on,” Guenther said. “An anthropologist will look at the bones in the next couple of days,” Guenther said. “It could take a month or two to examine them.”
The anthropologist will be able to determine if there was any trauma to the bones, Guenther said.
Once the bones are returned to the Summit County Medical Examiner, the forensic pathologist and anthropologist will go over everything to determine cause of death, Guenther said.
DNA testing will be done to determine if all the bones belong to one person, he added.
Two hikers, who did not want to be identified, found a jawbone Sept. 9 in the Valley Picnic Area off Riverview Road approximately 1 mile south of state Route 303 in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and reported it to park authorities about 5 p.m. The bone was identified as human and the FBI was contacted to assist national park service rangers with the investigation.
Rangers, FBI Evidence Response Team and cadaver dogs searched a wooded area north of the Riverview Road trail leading to the Oak Hill area and continue to search for more bones, Guenther said.
An article of clothing was found in the area and was kept by the national park service.
Taylor attended classes at Kent State University's Stark Campus for one semester last fall.
"The entire Kent State community is saddened by the loss of Taylor Robinson, who attended our Stark Campus in fall 2012," said KSU spokesperson Emily Vincent. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Taylor's family, friends, and those who knew and loved her as they struggle with such an overwhelming loss."
