Aurora picked as one of Ohio's best hometowns by magazine

Aurora -- In the November issue of Ohio Magazine, Aurora will be named as one of five best hometowns in the publication's eighth annual "Ohio's best hometowns" edition.

"The Chamber is obviously thrilled that the city of Aurora has been selected for this well-deserved honor," said Laura Holman, executive director of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. "We have so much to be proud of, and we are excited to share our town with the larger audience provided by Ohio Magazine."

Ohio Magazine editors said they selected Aurora because of its "impressive community spirit and extraordinary cooperation between its local government, outstanding school district and thriving business community.

"Aurora balances the fact that it's a popular regional destination with a steady focus on maintaining the community as a desirable place to live. Residents are particularly adamant about maintaining a superb quality of life for families and preserving the city's green space for all to enjoy."

The other four Ohio communities selected are Gahanna, Logan, Loveland and Vermilion. The issue will hit the newsstand Oct. 22.

To determine the honorees, Ohio Magazine solicited nominations and conducted site visits across the state. The editors evaluated the nominees in six categories -- community spirit, education, entertainment, health and safety, business environment, and culture and heritage -- to help finalize their selections.

Holman said Aurora residents are "blessed to live in a community that so fully embodies the categories used by Ohio Magazine to make the 'best hometown' selection."

"WHEN THE Chamber was contacted as a finalist for this award, we immediately reached out to the leadership in the city and schools," Holman said. "Together, we were able to effectively communicate that it is just that sort of collaboration that makes Aurora the special town it is."

She said another key factor for the honor was "the immeasurable depths of Aurora's community spirit."

"Aurora's business community is an eclectic and evolving mix of retail, commercial and industrial companies," she said.

"We are home to locally owned businesses, franchises and national corporate stores. Our commercial and industrial companies include local, national and international operations. We have room to grow, yet we have protected green space that ensures growth will not come at the cost of our community identity."

Holman said the city's Chamber and visitors bureau "serves as the collective voice for business in and around Aurora. The success of the Chamber can be directly attributed to our dynamic group of engaged members who invest their time and energy into the vitality of the Aurora business community.

"Aurora is truly beautiful, from its internal structures to the hidden gems found throughout to the people that choose to live and work here," she said. "I couldn't be more proud to be counted among them."

Each of the best hometowns will be featured in the November, January and July issues of Ohio Magazine, showing readers unique places to visit and ways to enjoy each location.
