FROM STAFF REPORTS
The State Medical Board of Ohio has announced that as of Aug. 14, the medical license of Aurora resident Dr. Mark B. Shaffer Jr. was revoked.
The 79-year-old Shaffer, who practiced in Bainbridge Township, was sentenced to life in prison and labeled a Tier 3 sex offender after pleading guilty July 19 to kidnapping with sexual motivation.
Shaffer entered his plea before Judge John Enlow in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Shaffer was arrested Nov. 28, 2012, as a result of a U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigation of alleged child pornography distribution, which led investigators to obtain a search warrant of his home.
Pornographic videos of children were allegedly found in the residence. In interviews, Shaffer told investigators he had sexually abused children for several years, according to Aurora police. He will be eligible for parole after serving 10 years in prison.
On July 16, Shaffer executed a surrender of his medical license to practice medicine and surgery in Ohio, with consent to permanent revocation.
