UPDATE: Youngstown man dies in area crash

A Youngstown man died following a two-car crash on Route 14 in Ravenna Township early this morning.

Lawrence G. Santangelo, 52, was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after his Pontiac Sunfire and a Ford Explorer driven by Anthony N. Rodriguez II, 21, of Mantua, collided just south of Route 5 at about 6:45 a.m. A doctor pronounced Santangelo dead at the hospital.

According to a press release from the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Rogriguez, who was driving southeast on S.R. 14, lost control of his vehicle and slid left of center, striking Santangelo, who was traveling northwest.

Rodriguez suffered minor injuries when his vehicle rolled over following the crash, and was treated briefly at Robinson Memorial Hospital before being released.

The patrol is investigating the crash.

An Ohio Highway Patrol spokesman said the patrol responded to multiple crashes in Ravenna, Rootstown and Mantua on Wednesday morning, with many caused by icy bridges. Reports of crashes slowed down at about 10 a.m.
