Aurora -- An Aurora man was found dead late on the evening of Jan. 25 after his car hit a tree in a residential area.

The Aurora Police Department said Erik O. Hilston, 47, was found dead inside a 2005 Buick LaCrosse at 11:22 p.m. after a resident reported a one-car accident in the 100 block of North Park Drive in the Four Season neighborhood.

Police said they found the car had gone off the right side of the slightly snow-covered road. It was damaged on the driver's side front fender and door, according to the police report.

Firefighters opened the damaged vehicle so the victim could be removed.

An investigator from the Portage County coroner's office was called in and an investigation is continuing to try to determine why Hilston lost control of his vehicle, police said.

Hilston worked at Canal Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center in Akron. He graduated from West Muskingum High School and earned degrees from Ohio State University and Indiana Wesleyan University.

Funeral services will take place Jan. 31 after calling hours from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Painesville.

His obituary can be viewed on Page 15.
