A man was transported to Akron City Hospital after he shot himself in the chest early Monday morning (Nov. 26), according to the Streetsboro Police Department.
Police said they responded to a report of a 49-year-old man threatening to commit suicide in a home on William Henry Drive at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officers could see a man through a bedroom window, holding a gun to his chest and summoned the Metro SWAT team, according to police.
The SWAT team formed a perimeter around the home and was able to communicate with the man, but personnel were unable to convince him to exit the home.
At about 1:40 a.m. Monday morning, officers heard a gunshot from inside the residence. Moments later, the man walked out the front door. He was found to be suffering from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest. He was treated on the scene by SWAT team medics and Streetsboro EMTs and then transported to Akron City Hospital.
The man's name is not being released, and no charges have been filed.
