Seat belt non-use could mean ticket

A "national zero tolerance seat belt campaign" is scheduled to run from Nov. 12-26, according to Executive Director Lynette Blasiman of Portage County Safe Communities' Family & Community Services in Ravenna.

"Thanksgiving is considered one of the busiest travel times of the year," Blasiman said. "In an effort to reduce preventable traffic fatalities, safety advocates are promoting public awareness of the importance of seat belts.

"Law enforcement agencies across the country are prepared to ticket anybody not buckled up," she said.

She said there will be increased and strict enforcement, no warnings and no excuses.

F&CS is an advocate in the community for social awareness and social action.
