Watercolor

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center will host its watercolor show through June 26.

There will be a public reception June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dance school offers scholarships

Christine Meneer, director of the Christine Jones-Meneer School of Dance, recently announced her school will be awarding up to $10,000 in dance scholarships for the upcoming school year.

This scholarship is for students who are new to the Meneer School. There will be two scholarship auditions on June 25 or July 16. Dancers can audition on either date in ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop. Specific times are posted on the school website at www.MeneerDance.com. Audition reservations are required.

New students who register before Sept. 1 will receive one free month of tuition in April 2015. The school also offers full scholarships to male dancers between the ages of 5 and 17. Call 330-688-3000 for details.

Workshops at Stan Hywet tied to

Lusitania model

Stan Hywet presents two workshops on the estate with craftsman Wayne Kusy on June 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and June 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. Stan Hywet is at 714 N. Portage Path in Akron.

The 16-foot RMS LUSITANIA currently on display at Stan Hywet was created from 194,000 toothpicks and 5 gallons of glue, taking Kusy 2 1/2 years to complete in his spare time.

Tickets for each workshop is $13, $10 for Stan Hywet members; tickets may be purchased at www.stanhywet.org or at 330-315-3287. The workshops include light refreshments and are geared for children (ages 8 and up), parents, adult hobbyists and others interested in the technique behind the craft of building models with toothpicks.

Cleveland to take part in Blue Star Museums

The Children's Museum of Cleveland is one of more than 2,000 museums across America that will offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer.

Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, has more than 2,000 museums offering free admission to the nation's active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families through Labor Day 2014.
