Anyone looking for an evening of laughs should consider "Don't Dress for Dinner" by Marc Camoletti (translated by Robin Hawdon) onstage at Weathervane Playhouse.
The May 3 audience laughed nearly nonstop as the talented cast brought out every bit of humor in this fast-paced comedy.
In the show, Bernard (played by Richard Worswick) has everything all set-up for a weekend rendezvous with his lover Suzanne (played by Hudson resident Dede Klein). The house is ready, his alibi is set, his wife Jacqueline (played by Bernadette Hisey) is supposed to be visiting her mother and he's even hired a cordon bleu chef to prepare dinner.
Of course, everything starts to fall apart for Bernard in short order. One, his best friend Robert (played by Scott K. Davis), who is part of Bernard's alibi, is reluctant to go along with the plan. Complicating things is that Jacqueline, who has been having her own fling with Robert, now will not leave the house. Of course, no farce is complete without mistaken identities, which happens when Robert mistakes the chef Suzette (played by Ashley Bossard) for Suzanne (who knows nothing about cooking). Suzette finds herself in the midst of a tangled web of intrigue -- and takes full advantage of it until her jealous husband George (played by Mitch Manthey) arrives.
Especially noteworthy are Robert's reactions as the weekend plans devolve into chaos, and George's entrance.
