Local artists featured in Upstairs-Downstairs

Published:

Summit Artspace Gallery has been in existence more than a decade and its next exhibition will celebrate its own resident studio artists from the Penthouse in an exhibition, entitled, Upstairs-Downstairs. This is the first time that Summit Artspace's own artists have had a group show in the gallery.

The exhibition opens Jan. 17 with a reception for the artists from 5 to 8 p.m. and continues through Feb. 22. The gallery is in a historic downtown Akron building at 140 E. Market Street, one block east of the Akron Art Museum. Gallery hours are Thursday from noon to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

The eight individual artists in the show represent a wide spectrum of contemporary visual arts from the traditional to expressive. All are well-known local artists with devoted followings from monthly Artwalks and other visual arts events in the region. They are Joan Colbert (printmaking); Cari Miller (mixed-media); Terry Klausman (sculpture/drawing); Carolyn Lewis (painting); Katina Pastis Radwanski (painting/sculpture); Bradley Hart (photography); Ron White (sculpture/drawing) and Connie Bloom (art quilts). Visitors will find an amazing variety and depth in the works displayed by these artists in the galleries.

A series of artist demos and workshops will be offered along with the exhibition as several of the artists mix their personal and professional talents. All are free and open to the public, but pre-registration is requested for the hands-on workshops.

Most demos and workshops will be on the third floor of Summit Artspace in the artists' studios.
