Two college sweethearts reunite when they get stranded at the same airport during a terrible snowstorm in "Shooting Star," on stage at Weathervane Playhouse in the theater's black box Dietz Theater.
The play, directed by Rohn Thomas, features Cuyahoga Falls resident Laura Stitt as Elena Carson and Michael Gaffney as Reed McAllister.
"It was a great experience," said Stitt on performing in the show. "It was like a journey to do it. We really had to live the moments and become these characters. It was a fun experience."
Gaffney said the play is set in the present day -- his character often has a Blackberry in his hand. But the play also revisits a lot of the characters' pasts.
In the play, both Elena and Reed are waiting for a flight to take them to their destination. They see each other but are reluctant at first to speak after so many years.
Reed has changed from free spirit to a suit-wearing corporate type on his way to try to get an account. Elena, on the other hand, has not changed at all from their college days. She comes with a rain stick and mediates on the airport floor.
Eventually, they do start talking to each other, and their revelations of their past and present day lives bring both laughter and tears as the snow falls outside.
