Zachary Sluzala of Aurora was among more than 50 students recognized at the honors ceremony during Baldwin Wallace University's Ovation Festival 2017, BW's annual celebration of student achievement.
Sluzala, a graduate of Strongsville High majoring in neuroscience psychology and psychology, received the William Prokasy Psychology Alumni Award. It is given to a student who has excellent academic achievement, has contributed to the department and has shown great potential in the field of psychology.
Sluzala is a third-year senior psychology and neuroscience major who is also matriculating through the honors program. He will lead on a new line of research assessing hormone levels, which he will complete in the next few months as a BW Summer Scholar.
Now in its 10th year, Ovation has expanded from a single day to a 10-day festival in order to more fully recognize student success in research and scholarship, the arts, experiential learning and leadership, and athletics.
The signature event is Day of Excellence, which features exceptional student work from every school at the university through posters, displays, live presentations and performances. The day concludes with the campus-wide honors ceremony.

Brian Hughes of Aurora has achieved a place on the University of Evansville dean's list for academic achievements during the spring 2017 semester. Hughes is majoring in finance. To make the dean's list, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Kendall Deranek of Aurora qualified for the spring 2017 semester dean's list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade-point average of at least 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Each year the Department of Athletics at John Carroll University recognizes exceptional academic achievements of players representing 23 varsity sports. In the 2016-17 academic year, 235 John Carroll scholar/athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Among them are these students from Aurora: Devin Bradley and Steven Virost, baseball; and Dalton Browsky and Michael Melfi, men's soccer.
Chrysta Blechschmid,of Aurora recently participated in the University of Findlay's 2017 Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity. Blechschmid presented "Oilers Serving Abroad."
Held on campus, undergraduate and graduate students were given the opportunity to share their research, creativity and professional learning experiences with the University and community. Many students received honors during the Symposium's awards ceremony.
