Nearly 300 participate
in the first Tavern Trek
Nearly 300 Aurora community members participated in the Aurora High School Alumni Association's first Tavern Trek on July 30.
Participants visited eight local establishments -- the Mason Jar, James Place, Aurora Inn, the Cabin, Doogan's, Papous Tap & Grill, Mad Jack's and the 1815 Tavern.
Transportation was provided between establishments, and vans were available to take Aurora residents home to eROsure everyone had a safe and fun time.
There was a 50/50 raffle, and gift card packs were awarded to randomly chosen trekkers who visited each establishment, plus there was a cash award for "best picture" tagged on social media at #TavernTrek2016.
Proceeds from the event will help the alumni association provide scholarships and fund the annual Hall of Fame induction banquet for distinguished alumni, honored educators and Athletic Hall of Fame recipients.
A Facebook page called Aurora Tavern Trek is available to display photos from the event. Those who "like" the page can get complete details about Tavern Trek 2017.
Organizers said tickets sold out quickly for this year's event. Next year's date is July 29.
