The Aurora Orchestra Association is gearing up to host its second annual Steak'N Strings benefit dinner and raffle on Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Aurora High School commons.

Outback Steakhouse of Macedonia will provide and prepare the food.

"This is a wonderful and fun event that will benefit the orchestra students in Aurora," said orchestra director Jason Burdett. "Everyone had a great time last year. The food was excellent and the raffle prizes were amazing."

The menu will include a 9-ounce steak with side, salad and cheesecake. A children's menu is chicken fingers and french fries. There also is a vegetarian option.

Adult tickets are $20 and children will pay $5. Proceeds go toward a large international competition in which the AHS orchestras participate every three years.

"This trip is really important to the students because it allows them to travel outside of the United States," said Burdett.

Prizes include a $75 Legacy Village gift card, $100 Portrait Innovations gift card, Jim Brickman autographed books and CDs and items from Lowe's Greenhouse, the Cleveland Orchestra, Whole Foods Market and other businesses.

The AHS rock orchestra will perform during the evening, along with members of the AHS orchestras.

All photos should be turned in with name on the back to Gayle Lewis or sent by email to glewis@aurora-schools.org. Photos will be returned before seniors leave for their internship.

The community is welcome to purchase tickets to see the Aurora bands perform at Severance Hall in Cleveland on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10. For details, visit www.aurorabands.com.

Mid-term exams continue today (Jan. 15) and Jan. 16 for AHS students. There is no school on Jan. 17 and 20. An educational options night will be Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The high school solo and ensemble contest will be Jan. 18 at Crestwood High School.
