Pupils to return Jan. 6
Aurora school district students and staff are now on winter break. They will return to classes on Jan. 6.
Harmon School news
during holiday break
Photo order forms were passed out to Harmon School wrestling and girls basketball team members prior to the winter break. Photos will be taken Jan. 7, and order forms and payments can be turned in then.
Harmon’s bowling club will begin Jan. 16. The cost is $30 for five weeks of bowling. Bus transportation to Roseland lanes is provided, and participants are responsible for a ride home. Information is available at lunch or in the main office. Only 50 spots are available.
Last week’s top students at Harmon are: sixth grade — A.J. Barner, Lenny Galaska, Allison Slaw and Corissa Slaw; seventh grade — Gilda Chestney, Edan Konturas, Charlie Svab and Madison Wolkov; eighth grade — Kacie Anderson, Paulina Galchenko, Tyler Liston, Cole Rausch, Jacob Roggle and Chris Rote; athletes — Samantha Settecase, Madison Wolkov, Zach Gerber, Sonny Quaranto, Gena Leib, Gunnar Meyer and Will McGhee.

Financial aid is focus
Aurora High School will host a financial aid night Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The session will be presented by Ann Marie Gruber, assistant director of financial aid at Lakeland Community College. Topics will include financial aid forms (including FAFSA), grants and loans, scholarship searches and a question and answer session.

Common Core is topic
The next Harmon School parents communication forum will be Jan. 16 at 11 a.m., when Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Pat Ciccantelli will discuss “What Does the Common Core Curriculum Mean for Your Child.”

Steak dinner planned
The Aurora Orchestra Association’s annual Outback Steak House dinner will be Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Aurora High commons. The Macedonia Outback will prepare the food on site.
Dinners include a 9-ounce filet, side, salad and cheesecake. A kid’s meal choice and vegetarian selection also will be available. Presale tickets are required, with an order deadline of Jan. 10.

Bands at Severance
Aurora High School’s bands will have the unique opportunity to perform at Cleveland’s Severance Hall on Jan. 26 at p.m. Tickets are $10 each. To order them, visit the Aurora bands’ website at www.aurorabands.com.

Lego teams fare well
On Dec. 14, four First Lego League teams from Leighton School participated in competitions in Solon and Aurora.
Lego Masters team Electro Storms/Robobacon won the Judges Award. Its members are Michael Stoycos, Sam Logalbo, Thomas Stoycos, Tommy Lo Galbo, Mia Bryant, Sam Nabring and Grant Schnieder.
The Smart Cookies team of Jazmin Rodriguez, Ilana Chestney, Sarah Robb, Rachel Smith and Kristen Jakosh advanced to district competition next month.
