Ravenna hospital

repairs under way

University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna is making repairs to its main entrance, driveways and parking lots through the end of June, the hospital announced.

The repairs may affect patient traffic at the hospital, including to the Medical Arts Building. The hospital said the work will proceed in stages “to ensure patient safety and minimize inconvenience,” though dates are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Vehicle traffic to the hospital's main entrance canopy is suspended as an extension will be added to the canopy for patient dropoff. Pedestrian traffic to both the canopy and main hospital entrance will be maintained, the hospital said.

Repairs are being made this week to the hospital's North Chestnut Street entrance. Vehicle traffic will be maintained by construction crews.

Starting June 15 and continuing until June 23, repairs to the Medical Arts Building driveway will be conducted during hours when the building is closed, according to UH.

From June 26-30, the hospital will have crews re-striping the main visitor parking lots in front of the hospital in sections.

Girl Scouts talk to

the Space Station

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, collaborating with NASA Glenn Research Center’s Space Communications and Navigation Office, is offering an exclusive family event the week of June 19 at Camp Timberlane in Wakeman.

Girl Scouts will have an opportunity to submit questions in advance and then speak in real time with astronauts aboard the International Space Station using ham radio technology.

Only a limited number of organizations get approved for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station contact. The exact date and time of the ARISS contact will be determined by the location of the International Space Station’s orbit around Earth, and will be announced just days before the event.

Guests will hear from NASA employees as well as Professor B. Curious from the Great Lakes Science Center. Activities will be set up throughout camp.

Girl Scouts and their families can register at www.gsneo.org/‚Äčariss. The cost is $20 per person. Girls who are not yet Girl Scouts and wish to attend can contact GSNEO Customer Care at 1-800-852-4474 or customercare@gsneo.org to complete a 2017 Girl Scout membership, which is an additional $15, and then register for the event.
