Graduation on TV
Cable 9 will air the Aurora High commencement ceremony throughout the month of June, and cap it off with a bonus marathon during the July 4 holiday weekend.
The dates are as follows: June 10, 17 and 24 at 1 p.m., June 11, 18 and 25 at 8 p.m.; 8:00 p.m. and June 12, 19 and 26 at 9:30 a.m.
From July 1-4, Aurora, Nordonia and Twinsburg graduations will air consecutively on Spectrum Channel 15. Check for specific air dates and times at www.Cable9.org under "schedule."
A few businesses
eyed for 'drive it'
The Aurora Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Drive-It-Yourself Tour, and is currently registering businesses to participate. The event will be July 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Businesses are invited to be a tour stop. The grand finale and prize drawing will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at Aurora Farms Premium Outlet. A map will list the stops and include a brief description of a giveaway, unique sale or activity that will be available only during the tour.
Participants will select to visit, and have their map stamped at, a minimum of 10 locations to be eligible to win prizes at the conclusion of the event. Only maps with a minimum of 10 stamps will be eligible to win, and the winner must be present.
A limited number of tour stops will be selected. Businesses must submit registration forms by June 23, must provide something special at their locations during the tour and must donate to the grand prize basket. Donations should be dropped off at the Chamber office by July 12.

At City Council's May 22 meeting, the city's tree commission presented its 2016 landscaping awards. Winners are: commercial -- VFW Post 2629 and Starbucks former site at Barrington Town Square; public /quasi -- the Sheldon Deed House and Bicentennial Park gazebo; subdivision entrance -- the Ravines of Walden; and private or citizen involvement -- Howard Whims on East Pioneer Trail.
Poker run coming
to VFW Post 2629
The 12th annual Run for Freedom poker run is coming up June 10 and is sponsored by Aurora VFW Post 2629.
First bike out will be at 10 a.m. and the last out will be about 11:30 a.m., with participants returning to the post on North Aurora Road by 5:30 p.m.
The best hand winner will received $200, with second and third best getting $100 and $50, respectively, and the lucky loser getting $25.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and advance purchase is available. The vent is not limited to just motorcycles. Cost is $20 per rider and $15 per passenger, with dinner included.

Planners to meet
The Aurora Planning Commission will meet tonight (June 7) at 6:30 in Town Hall. A public hearing on a conditional zoning certificate for exterior storage in an industrial area for Concrete Guys / M. O. Hauling at 1340 Page Road will be conducted, and the panel also will consider a minor subdivision / lot split for Baker Benson Farms LLC at 1001 N. Chillicothe Road.
The next City Council meeting will be June 12 at 7 p.m., with the committee of the whole convening at 6 p.m. Also coming up next week will be a master plan review commission session June 13 at 4 p.m. and a board of zoning appeals meeting June 14 at 6:30 p.m. Residents are welcome to attend any of the meetings, which take place in Town Hall.
There will be only one City Council meeting in July -- on the 17th -- at the regular times in Town Hall.
