ACT plans a special play

Aurora Community Theatre will present the madcap comedy "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" on Fridays and Saturdays from March 1-9.

The play was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. It features 37 plays, plus sonnets, in 97 minutes played by three actors in an array of hats, props, costumes and tights. It is directed by Don Bernado and produced by Kate Williams-Bernardo.

Cost is $16 for adults and $11 for youths 18 years old and under. For tickets, visit www.auroracommunity theatre.com or call 330-562-1818.

Planning panel to meet

Two items are on the city planning commission's agenda for its meeting tonight (Feb. 6) at 7 in town Hall.

Members will discuss and possibly vote on whether to grant a conditional zoning certificate to Aurora Events LLC to operate a party center at 50 Trails End, and also will discuss a wetlands setback variance for Anna Maria of Aurora.

The panel also will discuss the issue of a possible reclassification of funeral home use in the planning and zoning code.

Scavenger hunt slated

Aurora Library, in partnership with Aurora Historical Society, will host a scavenger hunt featuring underground railroad quilt codes and Civil War era clues.

Families and children are invited to participate. The program will be available anytime during library hours the week of Feb. 18-23.

Prizes will be awarded to those who complete the scavenger hunt, plus children can design their own Freedom Quilt Square in the children's area. Quilt squares will be displayed through March 15, when artists can pick up their designs.

Anyone who turns in a completed scavenger hunt form to the historical society's "Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War" exhibit will receive an additional prize. The exhibit opens Feb. 23 and continues until April 5.

Dog license fees higher

Local residents who have not yet bought dog licenses for 2013 will pay twice as much as the regular fee, as the charge increased to $24 effective Feb. 1. Kennel licenses also are higher.

Licenses are available from the Portage County auditor's office, 449 S. Meridian St., Ravenna, the county dog warden, 8129 Infirmary Road, Shalersville, or at about a dozen outlets around the county (with an additional 75-cent processing fee).

A registration form can be downloaded at www.co.portage.oh.us/auditor_pdfs/Dog%20Registration%20Application.pdf from the auditor's web site.

Licenses are required by state law and serve a identification for lost dogs. Fees for dog licenses are used to operate the county dog warden's office and dog pound.
