Reminderville residents may be entitled to water park memberships

Twinsburg — As outdoor pool season approaches, city officials have proposed higher fees for the Twinsburg Outdoor Water Park for residents, as well as new fees for Reminderville and Twinsburg Township residents.
For the first time, non-residents of these neighboring communities may be eligible to purchase memberships for the 2014 season. A new fee structure, including rates for non-residents and higher rates for residents, was introduced to City Council Feb. 25 and sent to second reading.
Under the proposed fee structure for the 2014 season, township and village residents would pay $90 for an individual season pass, $170 for a family of two, $210 for a family of three, $250 for a family of four and $300 for a family of five or more.
The non-resident rates are, on average, roughly 28 percent higher than city residents would pay.
Councilor and parks and recreation committee chairperson Ted Yates said the increased fees are a reasonable compensation for the expected increase in traffic at the water park at 10260 Ravenna Road. He expects the new fee structure to be approved by Council with little opposition after the issue’s final reading.
Under previous Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Department policy, residents of Twinsburg Township and Reminderville could not visit the water park without paying a $12 fee per visit while accompanied by a city resident with membership.
Reminderville Village Council president Mario Molina said the village hasn’t yet been approached by the city regarding the proposition, though he was in favor of eligibility for villagers at the water park.
“Nothing has been presented to us yet,” Molina said. “I think it’s a good thing that Twinsburg wants to do that. It’s going to fill a niche in the village.”
Twinsburg Township and village residents could purchase annual memberships to the Twinsburg Fitness Center, with township and village residents paying $303 for individual membership and city residents paying $228 per year with the proposed fees. Non-residents of the city, township or village could join the TFC for $348 per year for an individual contract.
The water park also will offer multi-day passes for $60 for city residents and $90 for township residents and villagers, as well as drop-in rates of $10 and $15.
