Book fair aids school

First Baptist Church members can support My First School preschool by purchasing books at the Oct. 24-28 book fair. Each purchase earns credits for the school.

The church's annual fall festival will be Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help with food and games, and candy donations can be placed in the box in the foyer.

The parenting Bible study led by Pastor Drew Carroll will begin Oct. 23, with gatherings on Sundays at 6 p.m. for eight weeks. Child care is available. Anyone interested should mark their connection card.

For the next Club 306 meeting on Oct. 21, participants will go bowling at Skylanes in Garrettsville at 5 p.m. The group is for third- to sixth-graders.

The current sermon series is titled "Jesus is Greater Than Everything" and covers Paul's New Testament letter to the Colossians.

Meat canning slated

Aurora Mennonite Church members have the opportunity to help can meat in Middlefield on Oct. 21. Volunteers should meet at the church at 8 a.m.

Congregational prayer time begins meeting Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. in the pastor's office. Participants should pray and fast, if able, from Saturday afernoon to Sunday morning.

Two small group Bible studies on "What on Earth Am I Here For?" meets either Wednesdays or Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Schwartzes.

A community dinner will be Nov. 4. A hymn sing is being planned in December.

Rummage sale slated

St. Joseph's-Mantua Appalachian Experience group is hosting a rummage sale Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations of clean, usable items are appreciated and may be dropped off at the church pavilion Nov. 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funds raised will go toward next summer's trip to participate in the housing repair program at Binns-Counts Community Center in McClure, Va.

Book study at L of L

Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge is a welcome place for families. A new offering for parents is a study of the book "The 5 Love Languages of Children" by Gary Chapman.

This free book study will meet the first and third Thursdays of each month beginning Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. Child care will be provided.

Participants will be encouraged to discover more about how their children grow, learn and feel loved. Parents can connect with other parents and share the joys and occasional challenges of raising children in a comfortable, supportive environment.

The study can be joined any time and does not involve extensive homework. The only cost for the class is the book, which is available in paperback and digital form.

An adult education class on the Books of Wisdom will run Oct. 25 to Nov. 22 on Tuesdays from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Marianne Ivany is the facilitator.

A Red Cross bloodmobile will be at the church today (Oct. 19) from 1 to 7 p.m.

Cub Scout Pack 3269's drive-thru popcorn sale will be Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the OLPH parking lot.

Gavin Forbes Morrison, son of Timothy and Elizabeth was baptized recently. An All Souls Day Mass will be Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. to commemorate those who have died recently.

Various committees will meet Oct. 20 at Aurora United Methodist Church.

Workcamp fees due

Registration fees are due by Oct. 23 for the Church in Aurora's 2017 summer workcamp. The Eavensons have details.

The church took in $3,300 at its recent fall rummage sale. Organizer Deborah Davis thanks all who donated items, volunteered time or brought in food.

Women stepping out

A women's night out is planned Oct. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora, while the Porchfest overnight retreat for high schoolers at Skyview Ranch will be Oct. 29-30.

The church will host an American Red Cross blood drive Nov. 15 from 2 to 7 p.m., and Moms Together cupcake decorating will be Nov. 17 from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Several activities are coming up at Parkside Church on Pettibone Road in Bainbridge Township.

Included are: Oct. 20 -- men's morning Bible study at 6:30 a.m., women's morning Bible study at 9:30 a.m., Christmas concert rehearsal and parents prayer night at 7 p.m.
