Hymn sing set Aug. 7

Aurora Mennonite Church will host a community hymn sing Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. Singers are needed, along with refreshment helpers. Contact Norma Jean Eddy if interested. Refreshments will follow.

Church members are encouraged to donate back-to-school items such as 70- to 80-page notebooks, pencils, plastic bendable rulers, pink erasers and 12 packs of colored pencils to Mennonite Central Committee school kits.

Prayer sessions will kick off Aug. 6 and continue on the first and third Saturdays of each month at 5 p.m. The church's former secretary has resigned and Verda Troyer is the new secretary.

A trip to Sugarcreek to see "Mennonite Girls Can Cook" will be Sept. 30. The travelers also will enjoy lunch, and will depart at 9:30 a.m.

There is a new location for the Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale -- the Wayne County fairgrounds in Wooster. The event is Aug. 5-6.

The trustees will meet tonight (Aug. 3) at 6, the women's prayer group meets Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., a communion and healing service will be Aug. 7, the Fox family will visit Aug. 21 and an outside service will be Sept. 4 in the pavilion, with lunch on the grill.

New CDs are available

The Church in Aurora has some new CDs in its library. To check them out, fill in the card in the pocket attached to the CD and leave it in the file box on the stand by the window. Return materials to the shelf on the same stand.

Circle 3-H will fill backpacks for Aurora school children at its first yearly meeting Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. in fellowship hall. Donations of backpacks are appreciated in the large basket in the Great Hall. Monetary offerings can be placed in the Women's Guild mailbox.

Baptist seeks cookies

Homebaked or packaged cookies are needed for First Baptist Church's My First School preschool kickoff event. They can be dropped off at the church from Aug. 21-26.

Club 306 will meet Aug. 14 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. It is for third- to sixth-graders. Participants will play games with water noodles and swim at the Hatfields' home, plus enjoy food and hear a message from God's word.

Volunteers are needed to help with the concession stand at Upward flag football games Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 1 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Contact Pastor Drew Carroll if interested.

Used ink cartridges can be placed in the box in the church's foyer to help fund a significant portion of the office budget.

Ignite grade school girls Bible study will gather Aug. 10 and 24. For details, visit www.kbachma7.wix.com.ignite.

The final vision discovery meeting will be Aug. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. and will include dinner and child care. Church officials will unveil what they believe is God's vision for the church.

Youths to attend Fest

A carpool is planned for youths from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church who will attend the Fest on Aug. 7. Cars will leave at 3 p.m. and return after the fireworks. The band Newsboys will perform at 6:15 p.m.

This weekend is food pantry weekend. Items needed are nonperishable food, paper and soap products.

A Red Cross blood drive will be Aug. 17 from 1 to 7 p.m. Signup sheets for helpers will be posted in the narthex as of Aug. 6-7. The June 15 bloodmobile resulted in 45 units being collected, with 46 donors registered.

The next baptismal preparation session will be Aug. 21 at 12:30 p.m. Call the parish office to register.

PSR begins Sept. 11-13 and registration packets are in the back of the sanctuary. They are due by Aug. 15 to receive the discounted fee. Catechists, teachers and adult and teen aides are needed. The program runs Sunday mornings, Monday afternoon and evenings and Tuesday afternoons.

Other coming events are: Aug. 4 -- Spirited Seniors at noon, grateful living joyful giving meeting at 4:30 and Boy Scouts at 7 p.m.; Aug. 5 -- building and office closed; Aug. 6-7 -- fair trade sale.

Aug. 6 -- reconciliation at 3:30 p.m. and Mass at 4:30; Aug. 7 -- Masses at 9 and 11 a.m., CLOW at 11 a.m. and a Boy Scout Court of Honor at 2 p.m.; Aug. 8 -- finance committee and council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Barbecue camp slated

Christ Community Chapel in Aurora will offer a barbecue camp Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn to barbecue like a skilled grillmaster on an outdoor grill. They can invite their families for lunch. Register on the church's website at www. aurora.ccchapel.com/events.

The next Wacky Wednesday will be Aug. 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Crazy games for water wars will be played. No registration is necessary. Wednesday nights at CCC will kick off Sept. 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Participants will enjoy dinner, followed by Christianity Explored for the adults and lots of fun programming for the kids. Child care is available for ages birth to kindergarten.

Blessing set at L of L

All students, teachers and others who are returning to class are invited to share in a special blessing Aug. 14 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Township.

Prayers for safety, scholastic achievement and personal growth throughout the coming school year will be offered during all services, which take place at 8:15AM, 9:31AM, and 10:45AM.

Students are encouraged to bring their backpacks for a blessing during the children's sermon. They will receive a prayer tag to tuck into their backpack to remind them of God's love throughout the school year.

"The start of the school year is a great time to remind kids that God is always with us, even at school," said Jen Keller, director of children's ministry.

Women, youths meet

Aurora United Methodist's women's group will gather for lunch Aug. 17 after morning worship at Doogan's. A lock-in for youths is planned Aug. 12-13 at the church.

Pizza With Pastor set
