Hope sets fall classes

Three Sunday school classes will be offered this fall at Hope Lutheran Church. They are primary, first and second grades and third grade and older. Signup sheets to help with the classes are posted on the white board.

Rally Day will be Sept. 7, with a Sunday brunch following. A signup sheet is posted for cooks and bakers to bring items such as casseroles, fresh fruit, bagels and pastries.

Church members have been busy sprucing up the building and property this summer. Sanctuary and parking lot lighting has been improved, windows were cleaned inside and out, new emergency exit signs were installed, the playground was weeded and the board purchased a walk-behind grass trimmer.

Becky's book club will meet Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Becky Bell's home to talk about Gabrielle Zevin's "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry."

A women's Bible study lunch will be Aug. 28, and the study will start up in September.

An organizational meeting of the Thanksgiving bags committee will be Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Many volunteers are needed. For details or to volunteer, contact Becky or David Bell.

School blessing slated

All students, teachers and others who are returning to class are invited to share in a special blessing Aug. 17 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge.

Prayers for safety, scholastic achievement and personal growth throughout the coming school year will be offered during services at 8:15 a.m., 9:31 and 10:45.

Children are encouraged to bring backpacks for a blessing during the children's sermon. They will receive a prayer tag to tuck into their backpack to remind them of God's love throughout the school year.

"Moments of entrusting our children to the care and guidance of others are exciting and at the same time anxiety-provoking. It is important to remember Christ is with them as they venture off into a new school year," said Senior Pastor Rob Henderson.

CCC going to Indians

The men's group at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora will attend the Cleveland Indians-Detroit Tigers game Sept. 2. They will meet at the church at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $18 per ticket. Signups are possible online at www.ccchapel.ocm/Aurora.

CCC middle school students will have their annual late night event Sept. 6.

Baptist sets work day

A church and preschool workday is planned Aug. 16 at 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist in Aurora to prepare the building for the preschool year.

Alex Sosler will preach Aug. 17 at the church as a step in moving from his recent licensure to full ordination.

A My First School meet and greet will be Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Six church members are needed to help, and can fill out a connection card if interested.

My First School registration is continuing. Interested parents should call Kelly Mayle at 330-562-8070 for a free tour.

The chuch's new family pastor -- Jeff Lowe -- and his family recently moved into their new home in Solon.

Bloodmobile at OLPH

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora will host a Red Cross bloodmobile Aug. 20 from 1 to 7 p.m. For details, call Sandy Senft at 330-562-9472.

A baptismal preparation session for expectant or new parents anticipating a baptism will be Oct. 5 at noon in Room 201.

Bible study will start

The Thursday morning adult Bible study will reconvene Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Church in Aurora's library. Study guides will be provided. To join the group, call Rodger Shaulis at 330-562-5683.

The 3-H Evening Group will begin its year Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Eldridge library. It will continue making prayer squares, prayer shawls and baby blankets while studying Michael S. Horton's book "The Law of Perfect Freedom." To join the group and order a book, call Kathleen Horak at 330-562-1930.

A memorial service for Roger Pease will be Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The Volunteers of America need canned meats and meals, noodles, jelly, cake mixes and frosting this month.

The following activities are coming up at Aurora United Methodist Church:

Aug. 13 -- TOPS at 6 p.m. and men's mministry family night baseball at Classic Park at 7 p.m.; Aug. 17 -- Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 120:30; Aug. 18 -- NOW committee at 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 19 -- No Man Left Behind at 7 p.m. and praise team rehearsal at 7:30.
