Sutton to talk at AMC
Jim Sutton will speak at the Feb. 2 service at Aurora Mennonite Church, and Ben Yoder will be installed as an elder. A fellowship meal will follow. Participants should take a main dish and one side dish or a dessert to share.
The MCC Great Lakes annual meeting, usually conducted in late February, will have a new format this year, with three separate meetings in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Ohio’s meeting will be May 10 at Sonnenberg Mennonite Church in Kidron.
Other coming events are: Jan. 29 — youth group at 6:30 p.m. and small group at the Pauls at 7; Jan. 30 — small group at the Yoders at 7 p.m.; Feb. 4 — elders meeting at 5:30 p.m.; Feb. 5 — small group at the Schwartzes at 7 p.m.; Feb. 6 — women’s prayer group at Lela’s at 9 a.m.
Auditions set at OLPH
Auditions for a musical passion play at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church will be tonight (Jan. 29) from 6:30 to 8:30.
Bob Summers will direct his original play “Make Us Believers,” a musical opera of the passion of Christ. The cast is comprised of ages 8 to 80. Needed are at least 15 to 20 teens, 15 to 20 adults and 15 to 20 children.

Parents of children who will celebrate First Eucharist in the next year should attend meetings tonight (Jan. 29) and Feb. 5 at 7 in the lower quad. Child care is available.
A baptismal preparation session for expectant or new parents will be Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 201. The next confirmation session will be Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the parish hall for candidates, parents and sponsors.
A talk by the Rev. Alfred Naseman called “A Winter Morning of Blessed Assurance: Comforting Those Left Behind After Suicide” will be Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Patrick Church in Kent. Call 330-677-4453 for reservations.

Subs ready on Feb. 2

A mini-retreat on the gospel of Mark for those new to Bible study will be Feb. 8 and one for prayer and meditation on the gospel will be Feb. 22, both from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Escape. For details, call Reed at 330-562-3388.
The Thursday morning Bible study will start a study on Proverbs on Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. in the church library. The 3H morning circle will meet Feb. 7 to pack chocolate candy for the workcampers to sell before Valentine’s Day.
“Grandma’s Recipe” is the theme for the Feb. 4 potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Participants should take a dish to share using a favorite recipe of grandma or a family member.

Ruth focus of sermons
A new sermon series will begin Feb. 2 at First Baptist Church. It will examine the Old Testament book of Ruth. Morning services are at 10:30.
My First School kicks off in-house registration today (Jan. 29) for the 2014-15 school year. The early registration period applies to all current students and regular attendees at the church.
Also, My First School is launching a pilot 18-to-24-month-old class starting about Feb. 1. It will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
UM activities planned
Activities coming up at Aurora United Methodist Church are: Tonight (Jan. 29) — TOPS at 6:30; Feb. 2 — Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., worship-junior church at 10:30, Soup-er Bowl party at noon and Alpha Bible study at 2 p.m.; Feb. 4 — men’s fellowship at Bob Evans at 7 p.m. and praise team rehearsal at 7:30.
Edge Games at CCC
Edge Games are planned Feb. 7, 14 and 14 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora on Route 306. Many adult volunteers are needed and can check www.aurora.ccchapel.com/event for to sign up.
The church needs six paid child care workers for the nursery from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Sundays. If interested, email Pamela.Proctor@ccchapel.com.
Newcomers to the church are being offered a free gift — a short devotional book. It can be picked up at the welcome center.
Three volunteers are needed to complete a team which brings the church to people living in care facilities. For details or to volunteer, email Cheryl.Kirby@ccchapel.com or call the church office.
Pasta and sauce are two of the critical needs for Community Harvest this month.
