Girls night out slated
A girls night out will be Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at El Camino for women of Aurora United Methodist Church. Also that night is praise team rehearsal at the church.
Other activities coming up are: Jan. 8 — TOPS at 6 p.m.; Jan. 12 — Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., worship and junior church at 10:30, youth fellowship at noon, Alpha course at church at 2 p.m. and Girl Scout meetings at 4 p.m.
Chili cookoff Jan. 12
Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s third annual chili and dessert cookoff and new parishioners welcome will be Jan. 12 after the 11 a.m. Mass. Prizes will be awarded for judges’ and parishioners’ choices.
A new lectors training session will be Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. Call Sister Lu Haidnick at ext. 222 or email lhaidnick@olphaurora.org if interested.
A scripture study class has begun and will meet Tuesdays at 1 a.m. through April 21. Participants have the opportunity to earn 20 hours of religious education credit toward certification.
OLPH’s next session for expectant or new parents anticipating a baptism will be Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 201. Call the parish office to register.
Other coming events are: Jan. 8 — “Catholicism” session at 7 p.m.; Jan. 9 — Spirited Seniors at 11:30 a.m. and Boys Scouts, Cub Scout Pack 3269 and charity and justice committee at 7; Jan. 11 — Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby at 9 a.m.; Jan. 12 — CLOW at 11 a.m. and church members will remove Christmas decorations at noon.
Agostino next speaker
Portage County Pastoral Ministers announces its third speaker in the “Dinner and Doctrine” series, when the Rev. Steven J. Agostino will present “Let us Build Bridges, Not Walls!” on Jan. 14.
A buffet dinner at the Rusty Nail Restaurant in Twin Lakes will be served at 6 p.m. (cash bar) with the presentation at 7 p.m. Tickets at $25 must be purchased by today (Jan. 8) at any Portage County Catholic church. For more information, call Mickee Murphy at 330-673-5849.

Movement class set
Congregation Kol Chadash at 6545 SOM Center Road in Solon will offer a no-cost parent/caregiver and child Jewish music and movement class for those ages 18 months to four years old.
The class will be Mondays from 9 to 10 a.m. starting Jan. 13 and continuing through Feb. 17. The second six-week session is Feb. 24 to March 31. The class will be taught by Debbie Rogers and will include movement, instrumens, singing and dancing.

Bible studies planned
The Yoders will host a small group Bible study for Aurora Mennonite Church members on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. It will be from “The Truth Project” and the study will meet Thursdays for the next nine or 10 weeks.
Meanwhile, the small group that meets at the Schwartzes will gather on Jan. 15, not Jan. 8 as stated on the church calendar.
The auction committee will meet Jan. 12 after the service. For details, contact Ben or Jessica Yoder.

Oreskovic will speak
Dan Oreskovic will share from God’s word on Jan. 12 at First Baptist Church in Aurora. Upward basketball referee training will take place Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday school and adult life group have resumed after the holidays. A church luncheon will be Jan. 12 after the service. Chili will be serve. First Focus resumes tonight (Jan. 8) at 6:30.
A mini-series to conclude the gospel of Luke study “He Came to Live” is under way on Sundays.

Tressel to talk at CCC
Jim Tressel, executive vice president for student success at the University of Akron, will speak at Christ Community Chapel-Hudson on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. during the men’s ministry’s Band of Brothers gathering. There is no cost and reservations are not needed.
Meanwhile at the Aurora campus, a women’s Bible study will start Jan. 9 and run through April 24 from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $5. An evening session also will be offered at 7.
Moms Together will meet Jan. 16 at 9:15 a.m. in the Aurora campus fellowship hall. Audrey Winkler and Laura Harrell will share ways to save in the new year by family budgeting and couponing.
Women gather Jan. 9
The Church in Aurora’s 3-H Evening Group will gather Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Eldridge Library. Baby blankets, prayer squares and prayer shawls will be made for Miller House residents.
Women’s Guild 2013-14 officers are: Barb Trueman, president; Phyllis Grumney, vice president; Muriel French, treasruer; Laura Nosek, recording secretary; Sandy Shaulis, corresponding secretary; and Lillian Papp, Ginny Miller, Winnie Tucker and Mary Schroeder, Circle representatives.
