Outdoor service, planned
Sept. 1 will be the Church in Aurora's annual outdoor worship and picnic on the lawn at the Escape. Participants should take a blanket or lawn chair and a dish to share. Hot dogs, hamburgers, beverages and paper products will be provided.
Beginning Sept. 8, the church will return to its schedule of two services at 9:30 and 11 a.m.
A Choralier choir parents meeting will be Sept. 1 after the outdoor service in the Great Hall. A Littlest choir parents meeting will be Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in Hanson Hall.
Thursday morning Bible study will begin Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. in the library to study Ecclesiastes. For details, call Barb Bigler at 330-995-0193. The adult Sunday school class is focusing on "Be Satisfied" by Warren W. Wiersbe. For a copy of the book or for more information, call 330-348-3913.
A parent-teen orientation for the 2014 confirmation class will be Sept. 8 at 9:30 a.m. in Hanson Hall. The class' first field trip will be a caving adventure at Pennsylvania's Laurel Caverns. For details, call the Rev. Kevin Horak at 330-562-8266 ext. 2.
Newcomers class slated
A newcomers class is slated at Aurora United Methodist Church on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will learn about what the church does, the heritage of Methodists and how they can get involved. Child care and lunch will be provided.
LOL youth groups active
Ignite (middle school) and Fire (high school) are two youth ministries at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge Township.
Both groups join together at 9:30 a.m. Sundays for the contemporary worship service. Ignite meets after worship at 10:45 a.m. at the white house next to the church, and Fire also meets at the same time there.
The groups also meet the first and third Sundays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Lord of Life is located at 17989 Chillicothe Road, just south of Route 422.
Mennonite eyes teachers
Aurora Mennonite Church at Route 43 and East Mennonite Road needs two more teachers for children's church -- second-third grades and fourth-fifth grades. The commitment is for four Sundays every other month. Contact Brina Paul if interested.
Anyone interested in hosting the September community dinner should contact Roger Troyer. The mission committee is continuing to collect school supplies until the end of September. Pencils, 12-pack colored pens, rulers, erasers and 70- to 80-page notebooks are needed.

K of C raffle is coming up
Knights of Columbus golf outing raffle tickets can be bought Aug. 31-Sept. 1 and Sept. 7-8. Proceeds are used for needy families in the area. Winners will be chosen following the golf outing on Sept. 13.
The golf outing begins at noon at Raccoon Hills near Kent. Cost is $75 for golf, a cart, lunch, snacks, pizza and prizes. Signup fliers are in the back of the church, or buyers can contact Bill Curley at 330-562-4216.
PSR registration is ongoing and classes are filling quickly. Family registration packets are available in the office and online. Signups should be done soon since materials must be ordered.
A meeting for parents of First Communion or confirmation students will be offered Sept. 8 at 12:30 p.m. or Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. Confirmation students also should attend to learn about requirements.
PSR catechist opportunities are available for Monday from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. (third and fifth grades) and Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. (third and fourth grades). Contact Nancy Flanik or Mac Clapp.
