Backpacks assembly set
At Circle 3H's Aug. 2 meeting at the Church in Aurora, participants will assemble backpacks for school children. Some will remain in Aurora and others will be taken to Family & Community Services for distribution in Kent and Ravenna.
The following items are needed: backpacks, Crayola washable broad line markers, Crayola colored pencils and Elmer's glue in bottles. A container is in the Great Hall to receive donations. For details, call Mary Schroeder at 330-562-0864.
The Volunteers of America is asking this month for canned soups, jelly, canned fruit, pork and beans, egg noodles and pet food. Donations are appreciated by the church.
Rummage sale planned
Our Lady of Perpetual Help's youth ministry is planning its annual rummage sale Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. Dropoff begins July 28, and there will be truck pickup for large donated items. Volunteers will be needed for setup and take down. The next baptismal preparation session for expectant or new parents anticipating a baptism will be Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in Room 201. Attendance at a session is necessary before a baptismal date can be scheduled.
The Spirited Seniors summer party will be July 25. The group meets on Thursdays starting at 11:30 a.m. The next Sacrament of Reconciliation will be Aug. 3 at 3:30 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration is Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The K of C golf outing will be Sept. 13 at noon at Raccoon Hills. Cost is $75 per person or a foursome for $300. Make checks payable to Knights of Columbus and mail to Bill Curley, 275 White Oak Court, Aurora 44202. For details, call 330-703-0067. All proceeds benefit local families in need.
'High school ministry meets Sundays after the 11 a.m. Mass in Room 206. Other coming events are: July 18 -- high school ministry at Sunny Lake at 6:30 p.m. and Boy Scouts at 7; July 21 -- CLOW at 11 a.m.
Dinner helpers are eyed
Helpers are needed for Aurora Mennonite Church's August community dinner. A date has not been set. To volunteer, contact Susan Miller.
Sanford Nisly was the chuch's speaker at the July 14 service. He is a member of Hartville Mennonite Church and has served as an elder for 10 years and taught Sunday school for more than 14 years.
Coming events at the church are: July 17 -- youth group at 6 p.m.; July 21 -- Dave Windham will preach and vacation setup will take place after the service; July 22-26 -- vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m.; July 30 -- senior fellowship to the Akron Zoo.
Bible school continuing
Vacation Bible school runs through July 19 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Aurora United Methodist Church. On July 21, there will be a VBS celebration during worship, potluck after the service and cleanup of the decorations afterward.
Barbecue, cornhole set
Christ Community Chapel members are reminded about the barbecue and cornhole tournament July 21 at noon.
The next Community Harvest collection is July 21. Penaut butter and jelly, shampoo and various soaps and razors are needed for the Aurora foodbank. Promotion Sunday also will be observed July 21. All students entering sixth grade this fall will join their paernts in the worship service.
The Micah golf outing to benefit Destiny Rescue and CCC's outreach at Restoration chapel will be Aug. 12 with registration at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. For details, visit www.MicahGolfOuting.com.
Business meeting slated
First Baptist Church of Aurora will have its quarterly business meeting July 21 after the worship service. Among items to be considered are the second half budget.
Stay and play days continue this summer on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and My First School preschool registration continues. For details about the school, call 330-562-8070.
A church membership class for those interested in joining the church is coming up July 27 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. A church workday will be Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. to get the building into shape, especially for the new school year.
The next one-day missions trip will be Aug. 17 from noon to 5 p.m. to assist Central Community Church with its annual Racing Back to School backpack distribution and community block party.

Valley picnic set July 21
Valley Presbtyerian Church's annual summer picnic is July 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at Settles Park. Participants should take a side dish or dessert to share. Games will be played by adults and youngsters.
Youth triennum runs through July 20 at Purdue University, the Presbytery will meet July 22 at 7 p.m. Softball games will be played July 30 at 5:15 and 6:30 p.m.
Men's prayer breakfasts are July 18 and 25 at 7 a.m., a blood drive will start at the church at 9 a.m. July 20, worship in the chapel in the woods will be July 21 at 10:30 a.m., AA sessions will be July 19 and 26 at 8 p.m. and July 20 and 27 at 7 p.m.
