Hope sets Italian dinner

The Women of Hope at Hope Lutheran Church will have an Italian dinner April 21 at 5 p.m. Information is available from Becky Bell at 330-562-7895 or Cheryl Tomaselli. All women of the church are invited.

Becky's Book Club will meet April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Blair Circle home of Sheila Kressierer to discuss "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Anyone who wishes to carpool, due to limited parking at the Kressierer home, contact Lori Foster or Tomaselli.

Becky and David Bell and Tomaselli plan to walk in the Hunger Network's 25th annual 5K Walk for Hunger on May 11 at Burke Lakefront Airport. Anyone who wishes to walk with them should contact one of them.

Hope members are welcome to join other Lutherans on May 18 for a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad at the Peninsula depot. Deadline for signing up is May 11. 3-H Evening will gather

The Church in Aurora's 3-H Evening Group will meet April 11 at 6 p.m. at the Escape. Participants should have completed study guides 1, 2 and 3 in "Who is This Man Who Says He's God?"

Spring rummage sale items are being accepted on the fellowship hall stage, with an express dropoff scheduled for April 20. The sale will be April 24-25. Call Deborah Davis at 330-752-3002 for information or pickup.

The annual youth group baked potato bar will be April 14 after both services.

Visitors from the Akron Zoo are planned today (April 10) at the Women's Guild meeting. The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m.

The work camp spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be April 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Aurora High School. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to 12. To donate to the silent auction, call Flip at 330-995-6268.

Jesus Day retreat slated

The Jesus Day-first communion retreat at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church will be April 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Author Carol S. Bannon will be on hand to read her book "A Handshake from Heaven" to children. Copies will be available to purchase. PSR candidates should take their completed first communion banner packets to the retreat.

The large group first communion will take place April 28 at 1:30 p.m., while other groups will celebrate at the 4:30 p.m. or 9:30 or 11 a.m. Masses April 27 and 28.

Homebound parishioners can made arrangements to receive Holy Communion at home by calling Sister Lu Haidnick at 330-562-8519 ext. 222.

"Fifty Shades of the Catechism" for adults will run April 10, 17 and 24 and May 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the lower quad. Karen Yash is facilitator.

Hope yard sale planned

Hope Community Church in Hudson will have a churchwide yard sale April 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3033 Middleton Road. Household items, antiques and collectibles, all types of clothing, furniture and other items will be available. Proceeds will benefit the summer missions trip. U B Free conference set

The Truth in Heart Prayer Outreach plans a two-day U B Free conference April 12 at 7:30 p.m. and April 13 at 9 a.m. at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora. The program is designed to uplift, encourage and empower women.

Participants will hear practical teachings based on biblical truths. Women can be themselves, relax, develop new relationships, nurture old ones and rekindle the fire of their relationship with God.

Bibles going to children

On April 21, a group of third-graders at Lord of Life Lutheran in Bainbridge Township will receive their own Bibles as part of the church's weekly 10:45 a.m. worship service.

The students will spend time with their parents and the pastor learning the importance of Holy Scripture as part of an introduction to the Bible program.

"At Lord of Life we feel it is important that children read Holy Scripture along with their parents," said Associate Pastor Jon Weaver. "It is vital that parents and their children begin to read scripture together because it bonds them in growing spiritually and faithfully."

Dinner set at Mennonite

Aurora Mennonite's next community dinner will be April 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The main entree will ham loaf. Those wishing to help should contact Susan Miller.

The senior fellowship will meet April 14 at 2 p.m. at the church for those wishing to carpool to the Ravenna Community Choir concert. Church member Audrey Bender is a member of the choir. Money is due April 14 for seniors who plan to ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad on May 11. The group will leave the church at 9:30 a.m. for the excursion.

Other church events are: April 10 -- youth group at 7 p.m.; April 11 -- MWSO at 9:30 a.m.; April 17 -- small group at the Schwartzes at 7 p.m.; April 21 -- guest speaker John Hooley at the service.

Women's Bible study set

Women's spring Bible study begins April 11 with session times from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Cost of the book by Francis Chan is $10. Register online or in the foyer.

Moms Together will meet April 18 from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. A panel of women will discuss ways to strengthen relationships with friends and family. Free child care is available with registration at www.aurora.ccchapel.com/women.

Community Harvest donations for the Aurora food bank will be April 21.
