World Day of Prayer set

A World Day of Prayer service will take place March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Aurora Mennonite Church. A light lunch and child care will be available. Theme for this year's program is "I was a stranger and you welcomed me."

Free meal at St. Joseph

St. Joseph parish School of Religion in Mantua, along with the St. Joseph Garden Club, will host a free community meal Feb. 24 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The Hughes Hall site at the church is off Pioneer Trail west of Route 44. For details, contact Peg Haney at 330-274-2268 or phaney@stjosephmantua.com.

Retreat planning slated

Our Lady of Perpetual Help's high school retreat planning team will meet Feb. 24 after the 11 a.m. Mass. Juniors and seniors are needed to help plan the April 20 event. The meeting will be in the youth room.

Lenten soup supper will be Wednesdays from Feb. 27 to March 20 at 6 p.m. in the parish center. Singup sheets for soups are in the narthex.

Lenten adult education are "Paschal Mystery: The Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus" and "Fifty Shades of the Catechism." Marianne Ivany and Karen Yash are facilitators, respectively.

Lent communal penance services will be at the following Portage County churches: March 13 at St. Peter of the Fields in Rootstown, March 18 at St. Joseph in Mantua and March 21 at Immaculate Conception in Ravenna.

A St. Patrick's Day party will be March 10. Help is needed. More information will be given out later. Church cleanup for Easter will be March 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with beverages provided.

Other coming events are: Feb. 20 -- blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m.; Feb. 21 -- Spirited Seniors at noon and Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and parish and family life meetings at 7 p.m.; Feb. 22 -- Stations of the Cross at 3 and 7 p.m.

Feb. 23 -- Lenten PICKLE retreat at 10 a.m. with Mass at 4:30 p.m. and reconciliation at 3:30 p.m.; Feb. -- Bethlehem art sale after all Masses, CLOW at 11 a.m. and confirmation practice at 12:30 p.m.; Feb. 26 -- Eucharistic Adoration from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

UMC activities scheduled

Activities coming up at Aurora United Methodist Church include: Feb. 21 -- administrative council at 7 p.m.; Feb. 23 -- Girl Scouts in Jones Hall from 2 to 6 p.m.; Feb. 24 -- worship and junior church at 10:30 a.m., confirmation class from noon to 2 p.m. and Girl Scouts at 4 p.m.

Hope Totes items sought

Aurora Mennonite Church is collecting the following items for Hope Totes: toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shaving cream and disposable razors, shampoo and conditioner and deodorant.

A practice session for World Day of Prayer will be Feb. 26. Information is available from Jane Oswald. The World Day of Prayer service is March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The seniors fellowship will have a carry-in Everything Red lunch Feb. 22 in honor of Valentine's Day and George Washington's birthday. The group also will play Bible Jeopardy.

The four Mennonite Central Committee meat canning committees in Middlefield, Berlin and Spartansburg, Pa. have completed canning more than 100,000 pounds of turkey, knotting comforters and assembling 1,000 school kits.

Other coming events are: Feb. 20 -- youth group and small group at the Schwartzes at 7 p.m.; March 6 -- small group at the Schwartzes at 7 p.m.; March 8-9 -- annual Ohio Conference in Kidron; March 12 -- board meeting at 7 p.m.; March 13 -- senior fellowship carry-in lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Kol Chadash event slated

Congregational Kol Chadash will celebrate Purim with a food, fun and fiddling around event egent (pasta dinner and Purim schpiel) on Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m.. Games and a dessert potluck will follow.

Advanced tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children 12 and younger, while tickets at the door will be $12 for adults and $9 for children. The congregation is located at 6545 SOM Center Road in Solon. For details, call 440-263-5571.

Work camp meeting set

The next work camp meeting for adults and youths is Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. in fellowship hall at the Church in Aurora. Participants should pay the remainder of their $100 registration fee by that date.

A memorial service for Barbara Tatum will be March 2 at 2 p.m. in the church. Circle 3H will meet March 1 at the church before going to the World Day of Prayer service at 10:30 a.m. at Aurora Mennonite.

The church's Relay For Life team will meet Feb. 24 at 12:15 p.m. in Hanson Hall. The Choralier choir's cantata will be March 17. It's called "A Technicolor Promise."

The membership committee will host a Bring a Friend day for children and adults on March 10. A photographer will be available to take photos, and a special sermon and coffee hour are planned.

Moms Together to meet

Moms Together will meet Feb. 21 at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall to hear Pastor Mark and Anna Lile. Participants can sign up their children for free care at www.ccchapel.com/women.

Family movie night will be Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall. Veggie Tales movie "The League of Incredible Vegetables" will be shown. For details, email Caitlin.Ramey@ccchapel.com.

Cathechism classes for high school and middle school students is offered Sundays from 10:35 to 10:55 a.m.

The Kent State Gospel Choir is coming to the Hudson campus March 3 at 4 p.m. An Ambassador Soccer Camp also will be offered at that campus in July. It is for youths ages 6 to 16.

Moms night out will be Feb. 21 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hudson campus. Big Daddy Weave, Chris August and Citizen Way will perform March 21 at the Hudson campus. Tickets ae $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Women's event is Feb. 21

First Baptist Chuch members will participate in a Women in Ministry breakfast Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. at the Bertram Inn. The event will include breakfast, worship and a message from a national radio host. Preregistration is required.

First Baptist Church members are invited to help out at a one-day missions trip March 23 to Akron's Central Community Church. Members will help hand out more than 1,000 invitations to the church's Easter services.

Open registration for First Baptist's My First School preschool is in progress. Contact Theresa Scotton at 330-562-8070 for a free tour.

AWANA and prayer meetings continue Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
