Mardi Gras dinner slated

Our Lady of Perpetual Help's volunteer appreciation Mardi Gras dinner will be Feb. 8. Hors d'oeuvres and a social period starts at 6:30 and dinner is at 7 p.m.

Adult Lenten sessions are planned Feb. 11 and 25, March 11, 18 and 25 and April 2 at 10 a.m.. Marianne Ivany is facilitator and six hours of diocesan certification credits are available.

Parents of youths who will celebrate First Eucharist in the next year should attend a second prep meeting tonight (Feb. 6) at 7. A baptismal preparation session is tonight at 7:30 for expectant or new parents anticipating a baptism.

The final Dinner and Doctrine session for this year will be Feb. 12 at the Rusty Nail in Kent. The Rev.. Pat Ferraro will discuss "Through the Eye of a Needle-Biblical Fundamentalism." Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the program at 7.

A Retrouvaille marriage retreat will take place Feb. 15 at the Holiday Inn in Boardman. To register, call 330-979-7787 or visit www.helpourmarriage.com.

A parish Lenten retreat will be Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Theme is "Learn how to preserve yourself without getting into a pickle."

The Red Cross bloodmobile will visit OLPH on Feb. 20 from 1 to 7 p.m. in the parish hall.

Other coming events are: Feb. 7 -- Spirited Seniors at noon, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts at 7 p.m.; Feb. 9 -- confirmation candidates reconciliation at 3 p.m., reconciliation at 3:30 and Pack 3269 Blue and Gold banquet at 6; Feb. 10 -- hospitality Sunday, CLOW at 11 a.m., middlers go snow tubing at Brandywine at noon, Eucharistic minister training at 12:15 p.m. and confirmation meeting for candidates, parents and sponsors at 6 p.m.

Lent season will kick off

The Chagrin Valley Council of Churches again will offer weekly services during Lent. The kickoff is Feb. 13 when Ash Wednesday will be observed at 7:30 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Route 306 in Bainbridge.

Holy Communion will be offered, and ashes will be imposed. All are welcome, even those who do not belong to a CVCC church. For details, call 440-543-5505 or email loloh.org.

Pastor Reinford to speak

The Rev. Ralph Reinford will be the guest speaker Feb. 10 at Aurora Mennonite Church.

He began his assignment as regional pastor for the northeast portion of the Ohio Mennonite Conference in 2011. He previously was a pastor in Wooster for 14 years and in the Virginia Conference before that. His degrees are from Eastern Mennonite College and Eastern Mennonite Seminary.

Small group will meet tonight (Feb. 6) at 7, and the youth group also will meet then.

The youth group is planning its 30-hour famine this weekend and is seeking monetary donations to help feed the hungry. Other church members who wish to participate are welcome. Contact Kathy, Lisa or Robert for information.

The senior fellowship should meet at the church Feb. 7 at 11:30 a.m. to go to the Main Street Cafe in Garrettsville. The next community dinner -- featuring roast pork -- will be Feb. 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. To help, contact Tom or Lisa Slechta.

Church directory slated

The Church in Aurora's membership committee is overseeing a new church directory, and photos will be taken the week of May 13. The church needs two or three more people to help coordinate the photo sessions. For information, email Cshock755@hotmail.com. Photos of past church events also are needed for the directory.

A memorial service for Toni Harris' mother Betty Martin will be Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the church. A service for Barbara Tatum is being organized for the end of February or early March.

The youth of the church will lead the morning service Feb. 10. Stories of Jesus' journey to the cross and resurrection will be told.

The 3H Evening Group will meet Feb. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. to review Chapters 23 and 24 and work on prayer shawls, prayer squares and baby blankets.

The food pantry needs crackers, pancake mix, syrup, corn muffin mix, fruit juices and boil-in-the-bag rice during February. Spire newsletters are available on the Hunt table in the Great Hall and North Chapel.

Ash Wednesday at UMC

An Ash Wednesday service will take place Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Edgar Brady of Faith UMC in Twinsburg will speak and Faith and Solon UMC members are invited.

Other coming events are: Feb. 6 -- small group Bible study at 7 p.m.; Feb. 10 -- vacation Bible school meeting at noon, confirmation class from noon to 2 p.m. and Girl Scouts at 4 p.m.

Feb. 11 -- Girl Scout leaders meeting at 6 p.m.; Feb. 12 -- praise team rehearsal and girls night out at Ruby Tuesday's at 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 13 -- prayer gathering at 10 a.m.

Movie night set at CCC

"The League of Incredible Vegetables," a Veggie Tales movie, will be shown on family movie night Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Movie tickets are available on the children's table in the foyer.

Moms Toether will meet Feb. 21 at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall to hear Pastor Mark Lile and Anna Lile on "Love Languages: Understanding Your Own & Learning to Speak Your Husband's."
