Advent events planned

n The Church in Aurora's children's Christmas pageant will be presented Dec. 9 at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. A birthday party for Jesus will follow.

The annual musical Vesper service will take place Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. hosted by the music department.

Looking ahead, the Rev. Bill Schnell will bring messages Dec. 16 and 30, while the Rev. Kevin Horak will preach Dec. 23. Christmas Eve services will be at 5, 9 and 11.

The 3H Evening Group will meet Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. to review Chapters 19-20. The ministry of making prayer shawls, prayer squares and baby blankets will continue.

Church committee chairmen should have their annual reports into the office no later than Dec. 10.

The deadline for returning gifts for the Caring Tree is Dec. 9. For details, call Betsy at 330-348-3913 or speak with a missions committee member.

The Women's Guild is planning its Christmas meeting this month at Club Walden, when Eric Pickering will share the "Sounds of Christmas" and Sally McGill will tell a Christmas story. Cost is $24 and reservations are due by Dec. 9.

Circle 3H will assemble gift bags for men's shelters in Kent and Cleveland on Dec. 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is the mission of the month for December. It serves eight Northeast Ohio counties.

LOL activities coming up

n Children's Sunday school classes at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bainbridge will collect small items for the Stuff-a-Stocking mission through Dec. 16.

A children's Christmas pageant will be Dec. 16 at 1 p.m., with a spaghetti lunch at noon. Proceeds benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy.

A children's Christmas party will be Dec. 18 at 6 p.m., with crafts, snacks and a journey through the nativity. A family Christmas Even service will be Dec. 24 at 4.

New study is under way

A

n A new adult Bible study began lanst weekend in the library at Aurora Mennonite Church with the theme "Jesus is Lord." It covers the books of Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians.

A children's Christmas program will take place Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the program.

Need a gift for the holidays? Give an Aurora Mennonite church cookbook. Copies are $10 each.

Other coming events are: Dec. 5 -- youth group and small group at the Schwartzes at 7 p.m.; Dec. 6 -- Cub Scouts at 7 p.m.; Dec. 9 -- Cub Scouts at 5 p.m.; Dec. 11 -- board meeting at 7 p.m.; Dec. 12 -- senior fellowship gift wrapping party at 1 p.m.; Dec. 13 -- MWSO meeting and carry-in lunch.

Auction for super seats

n Via a silent auction, a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church can win special seating for up to 10 people and one reserved parking spot for the Christmas Eve Masses. Proceeds will benefit the PSR program.

The last day bids will be accepted is Dec. 16. The winner will be notified Dec. 17. Bid sheets were included in the Dec. 2 bulletin. They should be returned to the office, mailed or placed in a Sunday collection basket.

The Middlers youth group will meet at the Pond in Auburn Township on Dec. 9 at 12:20 p.m. for ice skating. Middlers will help at the new parishioner welcome and chili-dessert cookoff Jan. 15 at the church. A meeting to plan will be Jan. 6.

"From Jesse to Jesus: The Family Tree" is the title of the dinner and pageant Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. Tickets at $7.50 for adults and $5 for ages 3 to 12 are available in the office.

Other coming events are: Dec. 6 -- Spirited Seniors at noon, Boy Scouts at 7 p.m. and choir practice at 7:30; Dec. 7 -- pageant practice at 6:30 p.m.; Dec. 8 -- Feast of Immaculate Conception Mass at 9 a.m. and reconciliation at 3:30 p.m.

Dec. 9 -- second Sunday of Advent- CLOW at 11 a.m., lector training at 12:15 p.m.; Dec. 11 -- Eucharistic Adoration from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

UM members to ring bell

n Aurora United Methodist Church members will ring the bell for the Salvation Army on Dec. 8 at Walmart in Marketplace at Four Corners. Committees will meet Dec. 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

On Dec. 11, the women's group will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Ruby Tuesday's on Route 43 in Bainbridge for fun and to get to know each other better.

A Christmas family night is planned Dec. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., while carolers will go throughout town Dec. 23 to spread the sounds of Christmas.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be Dec. 24 at 7 and will feature musicians from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the direction of Joshua Konow. They will perform movements from J.S. Bach's "Christmas Oratorio."

Hope holiday party slated

n Hope Lutheran Church's Christmas party will be Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Advent services will take place Dec. 9 and 16 at 5 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church. Supper and a short service are planned.

Women's Bible study gathers Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. and men's study are the third Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. However, there is no men's study in December. Adult Bible study meets Sundays at 9 a.m. and AA gathers Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.

Moms group will gather

n Moms Together will meet Dec. 6 at 9:15 a.m. at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora to hear Carla Gasser's presentation "Finding Christmas Peace." Child care is free with advanced online registration.

Movie night for students will be Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. "Elf" will be shown. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available.

Donations for Emma's Closet are needed. A list of items is available in the welcome center.

Luncheon set for seniors

n A senior Christmas lunch will be Dec. 13 at noon at New Life Assembly of God Church in the Geauga Lake area. The youth group meets Sundays at 6 p.m. and worship services are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Prayer meetings are Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Bible study is Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Josh and Tasha Willaford are lead pastors at the church, while Jonathan and Julie Taylor are pastors of student ministries. Erin Blakkolb is director of children's ministries and Noah Blakkolb is in charge of congregational care.
